|ON CALL SUBSTITUTE SCHOOL NURSE

The Substitute Nurse will be responsible for direct and indirect care given to students in compliance with school district policies, professional standards of practice, physician’s orders, and the Individual Health Plan.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
As a school nurse substitute, you will be expected to fulfill the responsibilities of the building’s school nurse as assigned. The usual responsibilities are listed below. This is not an exhaustive list and other responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
Health Care Activities:
• Supports COVID-19 Pooled Testing initiative, including the collection of specimens
• Conducts COVID-Facing care on students and staff experiencing symptoms with COVID-19.
• Care for sick and injured students and faculty, dismiss ill or injured students as appropriate.
•Promotes and protects the optimal health status of school-age children
•Provides health assessments and obtains a health history
•Observes the child for development and health patterns in making nursing assessment
•Identifies abnormal health findings
•Develops and implements a student health plan
•Interprets the health status of students to parents and school personnel
•Initiates referral to parents, school personnel or community health resources for intervention, remediation and follow through
•Provides ongoing health counseling with students, parents, school personnel or health agencies
•Utilizes existing health resources to provide appropriate care of students
•Promotes and assists in the control of communicable diseases

Qualifications and Requirements
•Qualified to practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of MA and holds an unrestricted license
•Certified in CPR or BLS
•Minimum of one (1) year experience in public health nursing, community health nursing, school health nursing or pediatric nursing preferred
•Principles and practices underlying professional nursing
•Principles and practices underlying the special field of school health
•Current trends in nursing and of literature in the fields of school health
•Organization and administration of other cooperating agencies
•State and local laws relating to health and social issues
