The Chelmsford Public Schools is now accepting applications for the following vacancy. The District reserves the right to change this vacancy or not fill this vacancy based on further staffing changes, enrollment, or budget.
Position: Assistant Principal/ House Dean
Location: Chelmsford High School
Position Objective:
Serve as a member of the collaborative leadership structure of the High School. Chelmsford High School is divided into three houses. Students are randomly assigned into these houses in 9th grade, and the students remain with the house until they graduate. As a result, the Dean is responsible for one-third of the student population (approx. 550 students) from grades 9-12. The Dean works closely with the two guidance counselors in the house, the clinical psychologist and the house secretary to support the educational programming, discipline, and attendance for students as they progress toward graduation. The House Dean promotes a positive school culture and is responsible for providing leadership and supervision within the house for students and staff.
Performance Responsibilities:
The Dean will…
- Administer a House disciplinary policy in a manner that will help the student develop self-discipline and promote respect for self and others.
- Serve as an instructional leader within the school by supervising and evaluating teachers and participating in and contributing to building leadership decisions and the development of policies and/or educational programs in concert with the Principal, the two other Deans, and the Department Coordinators.
- Work in collaboration with house counselors and the house secretary to monitor and support students’ academic progress, discipline, attendance, and tardiness.
- Maintain an open-door policy, encouraging teachers and students to discuss their problems and needs; be available and visible to teachers and students during the school day with the objective of creating a positive and supportive school culture and climate.
- Facilitate communication between teachers and parents regarding student concerns.
- Attend and chaperone school events and functions
- Participate in the recruitment of and selection of teachers.
- Perform other duties as required or as directed by the Principal. A more detailed job description can be provided upon request.
Terms of Employment: 214 Days, as per the Collective Bargaining Agreement Evaluation: Annual evaluation by the high school principal.

Chelmsford High School is a public high school located in Chelmsford Massachusetts, established in 1927. The school is based on a three-house system. The houses are named after Ralph Waldo Emerson, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and John Whittier, three well-known New England writers. Each house has two to three school counselors, a dean, and an office. All students are assigned a house at the beginning of their freshman year. Chelmsford High School offers opportunities in high-quality academics, community service, performing arts experiences, championship-level athletics, and mentor relationships in a technologically rich environment. |

<b>Qualifications</b>:
<ol>
<li>MA DESE licensure as a Principal/Assistant Principal (9-12);
<li>Master’s Degree or higher from an accredited college or university, graduate coursework in administration preferred;
<li>At least five years of teaching and/or administrative experience, in a secondary school setting preferred;
<li>Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
