JOB SUMMARY: Westfield High School is planning an extended day preschool program that operates in a laboratory preschool setting. A licensed child development teaching assistant is needed to support the development of the preschool children. The child development teaching assistant will work with the child development teacher to support positive engagement and provide guidance to the student teachers.
RESPONSIBILITIES: 1.Responsible to the child development teacher. 2.The child development teaching assistant will be responsible for conducting the program in the classroom in accordance with established policies. 3.Primary responsibility for the children and supervision of the routine for the preschool children. 4.Know the children and their needs. Be aware of special needs and support meeting their needs. 5.Development and implementation of the daily program. 6.Work with the student teachers and the child development teacher to establish program goals and assist with ongoing process of program evaluation. 7.Responsible for the health and safety decisions within the classroom. 8.Maintain a healthy and safe classroom practices and prepare to respond appropriately to emergency situations. 9.Maintain CPR and first aid. 10.Maintenance of records and reports. Observe, assess and keep records on children’s skills abilities and needs. 11.Interpreting the program to parents. 12.Work with the child development teacher to interpret the program to the classroom parents. 13.Keep parents informed about the calendar and special events.
QUALIFICATIONS: 1.Certified by Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) Level II certification as a lead Preschool Teacher 2.Keep certification current with PQR – professional qualifications registry with EEC 3.Evidence of the emotional maturity and stability necessary for the specialized work involved 4.Exceptional interpersonal skills and strong leadership skills 5.Ability to communicate and work successfully with staff and students
REPORTS TO: Child development teacher and building principal
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: The hours of this position will be flexible according to the program schedule. The position is full time/academic year. $15.00 per hour with non-contract benefits.
EVALUATION: Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Westfield School Committee’s policy on evaluation.
