NOTIFICATION OF VACANCY Applications will be accepted for a Nurse in the Westfield Public Schools for the Middle School grant funded Summer Transition Program to be held at Westfield Middle School. The program for students will begin on Monday August 7, 2023 run through Friday August 11, 2023.
Starting Date:August 2, 2023 Ending Date:August 11, 2023
Nurse Hours:8:00 am – 12:00 p.m. Monday – Friday
Student Hours: 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Monday – Friday
POSITION: NURSE-Salary: $36.00 hour with no benefits not to exceed 22 hours which includes 2 hours of preparation time.
Citizenship, residency, or work VISA in the United States required
REPORTS TO: Administrator of Student Interventions, Principal, and Site Coordinator
RESPONSIBILITIES: Schedule and is present at all school services, including all school health services, including all physical examinations, all immunizations, vision and hearing checks, and scoliosis checks. Maintain up to date health records. Assume responsibility for informing faculty and staff of those students with special health problems, i.e. diabetes, cardiac, seizures etc. Interprets the health status of a pupil to him/her, parents, and the school personnel without breaching confidentiality. Observes students on a regular basis to determine health needs. Update health records as needed. Authorize the exclusion and/or re-admission of a student with contagious or infectious diseases. Administer first aid in accordance with established first aid procedures. Assist summer school coordinator in establishing sanitary conditions within the school. Serve as consultant for the classroom teacher if health related lessons are needed. Contact and visit homes of children referred by summer school coordinator where health related counseling is needed. Maintain adequate first aid supplies at the school. Advise on modification of the educational program to meet health needs of the individual student through the Chapter 786 process. Assume authority, in the absence of a physician, for the care of a student or staff member who has suffered injury or emergency illness. Attend committee meetings and conferences regarding health service and health curriculum. Participate in in-service training programs. Make formal referrals to specialists when appropriate and conduct follow-up of the referrals. Work with community agencies when necessary. Assist in the formation of health policies, goals, and objectives of the school department. Will be trained to do vision and hearing and screening with the proper use of equipment. Complete Social History for students who are transferred for Special Education Evaluation or Re-Evaluation. Perform any duties assigned by Administrator of Student Interventions, Building Principal, and Site Coordinator.

Certified as a School Nurse by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education
