Job Description
NOTIFICATION OF VACANCIES:

Applications will be accepted for an Adjustment Counselor position in the Westfield Public Schools for the grant funded Middle School Transition Program to be held at Westfield Intermediate School. This program begins on Monday, August 7, 2023 and runs through Friday, August 11, 2023.

Training Date:August 2, 2023: 8:00 am – 12:00 pm

Adjustment Counselor’s Hours8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Monday – Thursday

Student Hours:8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Monday – Thursday
Starting Date:August 2, 2023
Ending Date:August 11, 2023

POSITIONS:

ADJUSTMENT COUNSELOR (for students entering Grades 7-8) Salary: $36.00 an hour and training hours with no benefits not to exceed 24 hours which includes preparation and staff development. Adjustment Counselor must be available for the entire program and specified professional development training listed above.

REPORTS TO: Administrator of Student Interventions, Principal, and Site Coordinator

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Attend training prior to the start of the program.
Assist in developing project based learning activities that include literacy, mathematics, and science.
Assess student progress.
Instruct students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
Work collaboratively with grade level teachers to plan and develop lessons and activities.
Evaluate students’ social growth, keep appropriate records and prepare progress reports in collaboration with teachers.
Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
Strive to develop positive relationships with students.
Provide student counseling and support as needed.
Implement the Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support Model.
Communicate with parents through conferences as needed and other means to discuss student progress in the summer program.
Identify student needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing in helping students solve health, attitude, and learning concerns.
Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned day.
Perform duties that may be assigned by the Administrator of Student Interventions, Building Principal, Site Coordinator, and Superintendent of Schools.

Job Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS: Massachusetts certification in grade and subject area. Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university Classroom experience at appropriate grade level and summer programs are preferred. Previous counseling experience in a school setting.
