Westfield Public Schools is seeking additional qualified applicants for the following position:
RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direction of authorized administrators shall:
- Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of the students.
- Prepare individualized education plans.
- Collaborate with school based related service providers.
- Collaborate with team on curriculum and student needs.
- Assess educational needs of students by use of standardized tools, running records and other informal assessments.
- Maintain complete records of re-evaluation periods, required student documentation and parent communication.
- Integrate technology into instruction.
- Provide differentiated instruction to students as needed.
- Implement school, district and department policies.
- Create and manage effective communication with parents of special education students.
- Create and follow goals and objectives for IEP’s, write quarterly progress reports and follow behavior plans with integrity.
- Follow the Westfield Public Schools code of conduct for the classroom which is consistent with established administrative policies and develops rules of classroom behavior which are enforced in a fair and just manner.
- Plans and supervises assignments for classroom paraprofessionals.
- Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the building principal or the Superintendent of schools and/or their designee.
REPORTS TO: The salary and terms of employment will be commensurate with the Westfield Public Schools Unit A contract. Step placement will be based on the information as submitted in the application.
Performance on this position will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Westfield School Committee policy on evaluation.
This position subject to funding.

<b>ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:</b>
Work is generally conducted within school building. Ability to travel throughout the school building is necessary. Position involves sitting and the ability to travel from one place to another within the classroom. Work is light in nature with regular lifting of up to 10 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds with some pulling and pushing or reaching above, generally of desk and file drawers. Frequent use of hands to operate keyboards and telephones and other office equipment and to finger and handle.
<b>QUALIFICATIONS:</b>
<ul><li>Certified or certifiable as a teacher of Moderate or Severe Disabilities at the appropriate level, Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
<li>Experience with functional assessments (FBA) and behavioral intervention plans (BIP’s).
<li>Knowledge of multi-grade elementary curriculum.
<li>Ability to provide direct teaching and ABA experience preferred.
<li>Strong classroom management skills and ability to lead staff.
