Job Description
Westfield Public Schools seeks qualified applicants for the following position at Paper Mill Elementary School:

JOB SUMMARY:
The autism assistant will:
  1. Maintain a high level of reinforcement for appropriate behaviors.
  2. Implement a behavior management plan.
  3. Assess new behavior problems using ABC analysis.
  4. Develop appropriate materials for instructional programs.
  5. Keep classroom materials organized.
  6. Use necessary data collection strategies.
  7. Follow classroom daily schedule.
  8. Develop programs or task analysis as per request.
  9. Promote communication in all activities.
  10. Insure student in continually engaged in productive activities.
  11. Use strategies of applied behavior analysis such as promoting, fading, shaping and chaining.
  12. Ensure student is engaged in appropriate balance of leisure and work activities.
  13. Maintain confidentiality.
  14. Be responsive to parents.
  15. Function as integration facilitator and fosters independence without allowing students to fail.
  16. Collaborates with staff, specialists, and other children to incorporate into regular activities.
  17. Perform any other duties as assigned by his/her supervisor or designee.
REPORTS TO: Special Education Supervisor and Building Principal.

Salary and terms of employment will be commensurate with the Westfield Public Schools Unit D contract.

Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Westfield School Committee policy on evaluation.

Job Requirements
<b>REQUIREMENTS:</b> <ul><li>Associates degree in education, psychology, communication disorders or related field required. Bachelor's degree in education, psychology, communication disorders or related field preferred. <li>Experience working with children with developmental disabilities. <li>Good communications skills in order to work with students, staff and parents. <li>Restraint training required - will be provided upon hire.</ul> <b>ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:</b> Work is generally conducted within school building. Ability to travel throughout the school building is necessary. Position involves sitting and the ability to travel from one place to another within the office. Work is moderate in nature with regular lifting of up to 25 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds with some pulling and pushing or reaching above, generally of desk and file drawers. Frequent use of hands to operate keyboards and telephones and other office equipment. Regular attendance is an essential function of this job.
