NOTIFICATION OF VACANCIES:

Applications will be accepted for an Adjustment Counselor position in the Westfield Public Schools for the ESSER funded Summer EDventure Summer Program This program is scheduled to begin July 10, 2023 and continue for four weeks, Monday –Thursday (no Friday dates) ending on August 3, 2023.

Training Dates:June 14, 2023 (staff meeting – 3:30 to 4:30 PM)
July 6, 2023 (8:30 to 3:00 with a ½ hour unpaid lunch)

Adjustment Counselor’s Hours8:45 a.m. – 1:15 p.m. Monday – Thursday

Student Hours:9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Monday – Thursday

Ending Date:August 3, 2023

POSITIONS:

ADJUSTMENT COUNSELOR (for students entering Grades K-5) Salary: $36.00 an hour and training hours with no benefits not to exceed 87 hours which includes preparation and staff development. Adjustment Counselor must be available for the entire 4 week program and specified professional development listed above.

REPORTS TO: Administrator of Student Interventions and Program Site Coordinator

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Attend training prior to the start of the program.
Implementation of a Service Learning Project and Positive Youth Development Component.
Assist in developing project based learning activities that include literacy, mathematics, and science.
Use data to plan student support.
Assess student progress.
Instruct students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
Actively engage with students during field trips.
Work collaboratively with grade level teachers one hour a week to plan and develop lessons and activities.
Evaluate students’ social growth, keep appropriate records and prepare progress reports in collaboration with teachers.
Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
Strive to develop positive relationships with students.
Provide student counseling and support as needed.
Implement the Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support Model.
Collaborate with teachers to support strategies and activities.
Communicate with parents through conferences as needed and other means to discuss student progress in the summer program.
Identify student needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing in helping students solve health, attitude, and learning concerns.
Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned day.
Perform duties that may be assigned by the Administrator of Student Interventions, Program Coordinator, and Superintendent of Schools.

Job Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS: Massachusetts certification in grade and subject area. Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university Classroom experience at appropriate grade level and summer programs are preferred. Interest in participating in outdoor experiences and developing a strong service learning project with students. Previous counseling experience in a school setting.
