Job Description
INTERNAL NOTIFICATION OF VACANCIES: APRIL NEWCOMER ACADEMY TEACHERS
Applications will be accepted for April Newcomer Academy Teachers in the Westfield Public Schools for the 2023 Newcomer Academy for Grades 1-11. This program is
scheduled to begin Tuesday, April 18th and end Friday, April 21st and is designed to advance student social-emotional learning and English language proficiency through engaging, literacy-based instruction and enrichment activities.
PROGRAM DATES:Tuesday, April 18, 2023 through Friday, April 21, 2023
PROGRAM HOURS: 7:45 am - 2:45 pm (approximate - to be confirmed)
TEACHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Create literacy lessons focused on standards and themes determined in collaboration with the team members and program coordinator and focused on student needs.
2.Tailor lessons to the specific needs of students and include engaging, hands-on learning experiences, movement, and activities that incorporate listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
3.Encourage, support, and motivate students in small but diverse groups.
4.Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
5. Strive to develop positive relationships with students and their families.
6.Implement the Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS) model.
7.Make contact with identified students' families directly or through translators to explain the program, provide logistics, and promote attendance.
8.Participate in any Professional Development that is offered prior to the start of the Academy week.
9.Perform any duties that may be assigned by the Director of Assessment & Accountability and Program Site Coordinator.

FUNDING: $3000 stipend

Position is subject to grant funding and student enrollment.
At least 1 year of relevant experience preferred
Bachelor degree preferred Citizenship, residency or work VISA in United States required |
