Chelmsford Community Education – Summerfest STEM Instructor(s)
This will be a Seasonal, non-benefited position running July 5th-August 11th. The weekly hours will vary based on the needs of the program. Program hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Ability to work morning and afternoon shifts will be required.
Job Description: We are looking for a part-time STEM Instructor for a leadership position during the full day summer program.
Job Goal: To assist in providing an enriching, exciting, and fun summer experience to the children enrolled in our Chelmsford Community Education Summer Programs, ensuring all participants have a memorable time during any activities provided.
Candidates must be willing to meet with Summerfest Supervisor prior to summer to develop a basic fun and educational theme-based plan, with a focus on their area of activities. During the Summer candidates must implement plans and be able to adapt planned activities based upon the children's age, abilities, and interest level. Candidates must also be willing to inform Supervisors of damaged or needed equipment, be willing to help oversee Supportive Staff Members in their area, able to offer positive reinforcement to all children, maintain a positive attitude as well as a professional demeanor, and perform other duties as assigned. The candidate should have the ability to work in a fast paced environment and have a flexible mindset allowing them to adapt to sudden changes in plans (for example, rainy days, in house visitors, occasional changes to schedule).
STEM Instructor Responsibilities: Candidates must be willing to maintain STEM equipment and store equipment in a designated area. including iPads, Coding kits, legos, etc. Oversee and facilitate the inventory and ordering of all equipment. Candidates must come up with activities and ideas that use age appropriate curriculum in a fun way while incorporating the basic concepts of STEM. Must be educated on current materials or be willing to learn about current materials that are related to STEM (i.e., new software, robotics, etc.). Work with supervisors to select the software programs to be used on the iPads (no weapons, inappropriate language, students’ unsupervised access to the internet, etc.) Oversee all STEM Materials, including iPads, Coding kits, legos, etc. Meet with Summer Supervisors prior to summer to brainstorm innovative ideas and discuss supply needs/budgets. Ability to work with other area leaders to coordinate activities. Keep accurate inventories. Other duties as assigned.
Flexibility to work morning or afternoon shifts. Willingness to work for at least 4 Monday-Friday part time weeks out of the 6 weeks of operation. There will be additional hours available for planning, setup and breakdown of Summerfest.
4 Hours of pre-planning will be expected before Summerfest opens.
