Chelmsford Community Education – Summerfest Fitness Instructor


This will be a Seasonal, non-benefited position running July 5th-August 11th. The weekly hours will vary based on the needs of the program. Program hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Ability to work morning and afternoon shifts will be required.

Job Description: We are looking for a part-time Fitness Instructor for a leadership position in the area of indoor and outdoor recreation during the full day summer program.

Job Goal: To assist in providing an enriching, exciting, and fun summer experience to the children enrolled in our Chelmsford Community Education Summer Programs, ensuring all participants have a memorable time during any activities provided.

Candidates must be willing to meet with Summerfest Supervisor prior to summer to develop a basic fun and educational theme-based plan, with a focus on their area of activities. During the Summer candidates must implement plans and be able to adapt planned activities based upon the children's age, abilities, and interest level. Candidates must also be willing to inform Supervisors of damaged or needed equipment, be willing to help oversee Supportive Staff Members in their area, able to offer positive reinforcement to all children, maintain a positive attitude as well as a professional demeanor, and perform other duties as assigned. The candidate should have the ability to work in a fast pace environment and have a flexible mindset allowing them to adapt to sudden changes in plans (for example, rainy days, in house visitors, occasional changes to schedule)

The Summerfest Fitness Instructor Responsibilities:
Candidates must be willing to maintain fitness equipment and store equipment in a designated area.
Oversee and facilitate the inventory and ordering of all equipment.
Able to adapt planned activities from the field to the indoor rec room based upon the weather.
Create a Rainy Day Resource for the Movement Room.
Must be able to run age appropriate recreational activities and oversee and guide support staff.
Coordinate and set up/take down of indoor and outdoor activities.
Manage the water supply in the cooler for the field/lunch.
Inform Supervisors of damaged or needed equipment.
Ability to work on their feet in all weather conditions.

Flexibility to work morning or afternoon shift. Willingness to work for at least 4 Monday-Friday part time weeks out of the 6 weeks of operation. There will be additional hours available for planning, setup and breakdown of Summerfest.

4 Hours of pre-planning will be expected before Summerfest opens.

Job Requirements
Qualifications: Early childhood or elementary education experience. Background in fitness, elementary fitness preferred.
