Position: Art Teacher
Location: Chelmsford High School

Reports to: Principal Steve Murray, Chelmsford High School
Dr. Christy Whittlesey, Fine and Performing Arts Dept. Coordinator


General Description:
Teach a variety of Studio Art and Digital Art Classes that may include Studio 1 (2D), Studio 2 (3D), Studio 3 (portfolio), Honors Art, AP Art, Sculpture, Appreciating the Arts, Introduction to Digital Photography, Photo II, Graphic Design, Animation
Regularly assess student work
Facilitate the creation of student art portfolios.
Manage ongoing school and district student art exhibits.
Prepare students for Boston Globe Art, MAEA Youth Art Month Exhibits, and other competitions and outside art events.
Work with K-12 art teachers to facilitate annual Youth Art Month Exhibit at Chelmsford Public Library
Facilitate and participate in field trips.
Collaborate with colleagues to align curriculum and assessment.
Participate in building and department meetings and professional development activities.
Adhere to State and National Visual Art Standards and district curriculum in the art classroom.

Chelmsford High School is a public high school located in Chelmsford Massachusetts, established in 1927. The school is based on a three-house system. The houses are named after Ralph Waldo Emerson, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and John Whittier, three well-known New England writers. Each house has two to three school counselors, a dean, and an office. All students are assigned a house at the beginning of their freshman year. Chelmsford High School offers opportunities in high-quality academics, community service, performing arts experiences, championship-level athletics, and mentor relationships in a technologically rich environment.

Job Requirements
State DESE licensure as a 9-12 Art Teacher Bachelor’s or master’s Degree or equivalent with a major in Art Willingness to facilitate field trips and educational opportunities for students, including art exhibits at CHS and the surrounding community. Understanding of knowledge and pedagogy required to teach studio and digital art classes. Excellent communication skills and capacity to foster cooperative teamwork. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
