Job Description
LONG TERM SUBSTITUTE TEACHER TO COVER LEAVE STARTING IN JANUARY

JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direction of authorized administrators shall:
  1. Teach pupils in an integrated setting utilizing course of study adopted by the Westfield Public Schools and appropriate curriculum publications as guidelines in teaching individual course content.
  2. Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law, school policy and administrative regulations.
  3. Work cooperatively with colleagues, students and/or parents on a regular basis as a liaison between the home and school whenever necessary.
  4. Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
  5. Identify pupil needs, and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
  6. Supervise pupils in out of classroom activities during the assigned work day.
  7. Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss pupils' progress and interpret the school program.
  8. Create an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards and interest centers.
  9. Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities.
  10. Select and requisition books and instructional aids; maintain required inventory records.
  11. Participate in curriculum development programs as required.
  12. Participate in faculty committees and the sponsorship of pupil activities.
  13. Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the Building Principal and/or the Superintendent of Schools.

This is a temporary position with no benefits.

Job Requirements
<b>QUALIFICATIONS:</b> <ul> <li>Certified or certifiable as teacher in appropriate content/level by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education is encouraged. </ul>
