Chelmsford Public Schools - Announcement of Vacancy for the 2023/2024 School Year

The Chelmsford Public Schools is now accepting applications for the following anticipated vacancy. The district reserves the right to change this vacancy or not fill this vacancy based on further staffing changes, enrollment, or budget.

Title: Music Teacher Position: 1.0 FTE McCarthy Middle School Band Teacher
  • Demonstrate excellence in facilitating students' success in daily grade middle school band classes, including students with diverse learning preferences and needs.
  • Demonstrate facility with and knowledge of all band instruments.
  • Demonstrate excellence in conducting.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of good quality instruments to assist parents when obtaining instruments.
  • Prepare for and conduct the ensemble at performance events during the school day, at night, and on weekends.
  • Work with the music teachers, the department coordinator, and principals to organize all of the events above.
  • Assist students in performance opportunities and coach students for solos and ensembles.
  • Lead students through continuous curriculum that supports growth each year.
  • Collaborate with school personnel, parents, and district music staff for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes, developing solutions, and planning curriculum.
  • Prepare and facilitate distribution of programs for performances.
  • Participate in annual Instrument Test Drive for incoming grade 4 string students (Saturday event).
  • Facilitate student participation in MMEA Junior District Auditions.
  • Attend Junior District Auditions.
  • Chaperone at least one Junior District rehearsal.
  • Participate in transition/recruitment activities for music students transitioning between levels.
  • Attend annual McCarthy Curriculum Night and Open House Nights.
  • Communicate regularly with parents through email, phone calls, face-to-face meetings, and through approved social media.
  • Select and order music appropriate for ability level of students and music curriculum.
  • Ensure that school owned instruments are kept in working order and sent out for repairs when necessary.
  • Post biweekly grades for all students.
  • Send department coordinator copies of the program in advance of all concerts.
  • Organize field trips and festival events.
  • Attend all building and department meetings.
  • Participate in department and building professional development activities.
  • Adhere to State and National Music Standards in the music classroom.

    Job Requirements
    * Active state licensure as a music teacher. * Master's Degree or equivalent with a major in Music. * Excellent facility and understanding of playing mechanics for band instruments. * Excellent communication skills and capacity to foster cooperative teamwork. * Excellent conducting skills and basic piano skills. * Knowledge of age-appropriate teaching methods, state curriculum framework for band. * Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
