Job Description
The RISE Program Paraprofessional will work with the classroom teacher and related service providers to provide support to students with Autism or in need of ABA methodologies in a substantially separate classroom. The RISE paraprofessional will provide hands-on support as directed by the classroom teacher and/or related service providers. The paraprofessional will assist with the basic academic and communication functions of students and will administer some basic life skills, including but not limited to changing and toileting. Knowledge and training in de-escalation procedures preferred.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
• Actively participate in the educational program and help in classroom management, lesson planning, and recording of student data, as requested.
• Facilitate students' travel from classroom activities and appointments by giving specific directions and monitoring independent travel.
• Participate in staff and /or unit meetings as appropriate.
• This position will require supporting students 1:1 at times.
• Monitor all activities to ensure the safety and well-being of students and inform the teacher of any problems, conflicts and/or issues.
• Work cooperatively with the team, including school administrators, teachers and related service providers to ensure that program activities are conducted in a safe and professional manner.
• Actively participate in program and professional development activities in accordance with state and federal laws and regulations.
• Work with students to implement program goals and objectives.
• Maintain professional standards and practices.



Experience working with children in a diverse, multi-cultural academic setting
Terms: 182 school days, 6.5 hours per day, plus compensation for 10 holidays
Salary: Consistent with Support Professional Collective Bargaining Agreement and depends on relevant experience, degree level and subject, certification, other relevant skills.

Currently, the Kennedy School maintains an enrollment of approximately six hundred students, Preschool through grade 6, enrolled in thirty-seven classrooms, nine of which serve students with special needs. The Kennedy program serves the language needs of Chinese students throughout the town with a program of language assistance for English Language Learners. Two full-time and one part-time Title 1 teachers provide small group language.

Job Requirements
Additional Requirements -Experience working with young children with special needs. -Experience collecting data (observations, checklists, etc.) -RBT training preferred Paraprofessionals must meet the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) highly qualified paraprofessional requirements • Associate’s (or higher) degree; or • Completion of 48 credit hours at an institution of higher education; or • Completion of a formal local assessment program that is aligned with DESE guidelines; or • Completion of one of the formal Massachusetts-endorsed assessments: Parapro or WorkKeys. At least 1 year of relevant experience preferred Bachelor’s degree preferred
