Westfield Public Schools is seeking qualified applicants for a part time Athletic Trainer at Westfield Technical Academy.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develops and administers fitness programs for athletes including prevention, assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation
- Assists athletes in recovering from injuries (acute and chronic) or health problems.
- Evaluates injuries sustained and provides immediate care for those injuries
- Administers rehabilitative exercise programs effectively and safely as indicated by the health care provider
- Administers proper athletic training techniques (wrapping, bandaging and taping) to decrease risk of injury
- Provides in-service instructions for coaches or other interested individuals in the care and prevention of athletic injuries
- Assists in the determination of when injured athlete can safely return to participation and competition
- Establishes and maintains records including injury, treatments and rehabilitation
- Reports all pertinent findings to appropriate parties
- Assist in the purchasing, maintenance, and inventory of athletic training supplies
- Adheres to safety practices and procedures
- Maintains technical and professional knowledge current with the latest theory and techniques of sports and physical medicine
- Performs other patient care activities
- Performs related duties as required
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED- Knowledge of the general principles and techniques of physical care for athletes
- Considerable interpersonal skills
- Ability to communicate effectively, oral and written
- Ability to be thorough and organized
- Ability to identify need for immediate medical attention
- Demonstrates the knowledge and skill necessary to provide the care needed by pediatric, adolescent and adults
- Knowledge of safety practices
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) by the Board of Certification, Inc. (BOC)
SCHEDULE: 15-19 hours per week. Varying schedule dependent upon offsite support requirements. May require evenings and weekends.
REPORTS TO: Supervisor of Athletics

<b>REQUIREMENTS:</b>
<ul><li>Bachelor's Degree in Athletic Training Required</ul>
<li>Licensed by the Massachusetts Board of Allied Health Professionals
<li>Certified by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association BOC
<li>Trained in first aid and CPR
<li>Trained and/or experience with the Impact Concussion program and protocols
<li>Citizenship, residency OR WORK VISA IN United States required
Applicants are required to possess and maintain certification as a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC), Mass State Athletic Trainer license and CPR certification
<b>WORKING CONDITIONS:</b>
<li>Must be able to assist with or transfer patients of various weights/heights.
<li>Must be able to lift 50 -75 pounds and may be required to carry medical, first aid and athletic training kit and coolers long distances
<li>Must be able to push carts containing medical and athletic equipment.
<li>Must be able to stand for long periods of time, have good mobility skills and be able to walk long distances.
<li>Applicants will be required to work out of doors in various weather/climate conditions, evenings, weekends.
