Position: Long-Term Substitute Special Education Teacher
Location: McCarthy Middle School

The successful candidate will assume the role and responsibilities of a Long-Term Substitute Special Education Teacher for a temporary assignment from December 12, 2022, through February 01, 2023. Dates subject to change.

Provide special education instruction for students in a co-taught setting and provide academic support outside of the classroom setting. Work collaboratively with other teachers and administration to meet student needs.

Job Description:
  • Design, supervise and implement students’ IEP plans
  • Develop curriculum modifications and adaptations.
  • Participate in IEP Team meetings.
  • Write data-based progress reports, per the report card cycle, that are reflective of student performance and IEP goals
  • Collect and analyze student data and monitor student progress - Effectively work with a team of professionals to coordinate services
  • Consult with general education teacher and related service providers
  • Assist classroom teachers with instructional strategies to facilitate inclusion.
  • Write quarterly progress reports for IEP goals that are data based on student performance.
  • Administer various diagnostic achievement assessments (WIAT-III, Woodcock Johnson IV, Key Math, GORT 5, etc.) that identifies student capabilities as part of initial and reevaluation for students. - Write effective evaluation reports summarizing findings and making recommendations for assigned students.

    Job Requirements
    Successful candidates will hold a Bachelor or Master’s degree in special education from an accredited college or university. - MA DESE Teaching License-- PreK-8 or 5-12 Moderate Special Needs license required but will consider candidates with other DESE certifications to obtain a Waiver. - Training and experience with specialized reading programs preferred. - Experience in modifying and adapting curriculum to ensure students can access the curriculum. - Ability to effectively consult and work collaboratively with various service providers and support staff. - Solid organizational skills. - Experience with IEP development.
