Job Description
Pilgrim Area Collaborative is a public educational collaborative that serves students with a wide range of disabilities from primary through post-secondary levels from all over the South Shore.

We have an anticipated vacancy for a Special Education Teacher to work at our substantially separate school, Pilgrim Academy located in North Plymouth. Pilgrim Academy is a small, structured, therapeutic school for students in grades 5-12 experiencing significant social, emotional and/or behavioral difficulties. The goal of placement is to assist students in re-establishing and maintaining typical adolescent responsibilities such as: consistent school attendance, appropriate emotional regulation, effective interpersonal skills, and consistent completion of school work. The school offers students an opportunity for psychological, academic, and personal growth.

This is a high school position (grades 10, 11, 12) in our social-emotional/behavioral program. Well-qualified candidates must have appropriate Massachusetts certification in Special Education and experience with students dealing with social emotional disabilities and/or high functioning ASD. There is an optional ESY Program for summer employment as well.

This is a full-time position to start in January 2023.

Welcome to Pilgrim Academy!

Pilgrim Academy is a publicly administered, alternative program supporting middle and high school aged students that have complex emotional and behavioral challenges. The Academy is designed to supplement academic content instruction with strong therapeutic supports including a structured behavioral point system with ongoing counseling and therapeutic interventions. Pilgrim Academy serves students in grades 5-12 who have been identified for special education services due to the presence of an emotional disability. Academic abilities range from above average to low average and students are provided a curriculum that is adequately challenging given the student's skill levels. Pilgrim Academy provides an academic curriculum consistent with the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education curriculum frameworks. The curriculum is individualized to meet each students needs as defined in his/her IEP. When appropriate the curriculum addresses the academic proficiencies and credits required to qualify for a high school diploma from the student's home school district. The Academy uses a structured behavior management system which serves as an instructional tool for supporting the academic and behavioral supports of each student. Counseling services are also provided to assists students to positively address issues and problems that interfere with their success.

Job Requirements
