Job Description
Westfield Public Schools is seeking qualified applicants for anticipated openings.

JOB SUMMARY
Generally, the shop assistant shall take directions from the Information Technology instructors and assist students with instruction and hands-on activities.

Under the direction of the Information Technology instructor, the shop assistant will assist students with hands on learning activities, including:
  1. Following instructions.
  2. Reading instructional text and technical papers.
  3. Managing project documentation and planning.
  4. Interpreting mockup designs, wireframes, and network topologies
  5. Completion of shop assignments to industry standards.
Under the direction of the Information Technology instructor, the shop assistant will assist the program with administrative tasks, including:
  1. Assist instructors to maintain safety procedures in shop environment.
  2. Assist instructors to maintain the community-facing computer repair program logs and inventory.
  3. Assist instructors with transporting students to and from project sites.
  4. Assist instructors in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and school committee policies.
  5. Any other duties as assigned by the superintendent or his/her designee.
REPORTS TO: Building Principal

Terms of employment will be in accordance with the Westfield Public Schools Unit D contract.

Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with the Westfield School Committee policy on evaluation.

Job Requirements
<b>QUALIFICATIONS:</b> <ul><li>A minimum of two years of recent, relevant industry experience or equivalent post-secondary training. <li>Ability to communicate well with secondary students. <li>Demonstrate aptitude for the work to be performed, including organizational and computational skills.</ul> <b>PREFERRED SKILLS:</b> <ul><li>Knowledge of computer repair and customer service is preferred. <li>Knowledge of networking and cyber security is preferred. <li>Knowledge of small electronics and web technologies is preferred.</ul> ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is generally conducted within school building. Ability to travel throughout the school building is necessary. Position involves sitting and the ability to travel from one place to another within the classroom. Work is moderate in nature with regular lifting of up to 25 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds with some pulling and pushing or reaching above. Frequent use of hands to operate computers, telephones, small electronics, and other office equipment.
