Job Description
Seeking applicants for Lead Teacher for Art K-6

  1. The lead teacher will be responsible for educational leadership, coordination across all grade levels, and organization of the Art Department program(s).
  2. The lead teacher will provide leadership with the acceptance of responsibility for decision making, keep in perspective the district program and philosophy, and keep the principal informed.
  3. The lead teacher will be responsible to the building principal for providing support in the progress, efficiency, and quality of education in the Art Department and will teach scheduled classes and perform all assigned departmental functions.
  1. Informs the principal or his/her designee of the needs and problems of the department as may be necessary.
  2. Facilitates departmental meetings, PLCs, and coordinates activities among teachers in the Art Department; but not responsible for supervision and evaluation of teachers.
  3. Supports the development, articulation and implementation of departmental curriculum objectives and content.
  4. Assists in orienting new teachers in the department and assists in assigning mentors to new teachers.
  5. Works with building principals and Director of Curriculum and Instruction to conduct research, compile data, and make specific recommendations for instructional improvement.
  6. Recommends equipment and materials in sufficient quantity to encourage optimum learning conditions for students; prepares a budget to order these materials and supplies.
  7. Assists the administration in the placement of student teachers.
  8. Recommends training for members of the department, as may be necessary, and assist in the content specific activities and goals in Developing Educator Plans, Directed Growth Plans, and Improvement Plans with content specific recommendations.
  9. Attends meetings outside of the regular work day as required.
  10. May be directed to play a role in interviewing of candidates for teaching positions.
  11. Performs any other duties that may be assigned by the Principal or designees.
REPORTS TO: Director of Curriculum and Instruction

Stipend in accordance with Unit A contract.

Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Westfield School Committee’s policy on evaluation.

This position subject to funding.

Job Requirements
<b>ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is generally conducted within school building. Ability to travel throughout the school building is necessary. Position involves sitting and the ability to travel from one place to another within the classroom. Work is light in nature with regular lifting of up to 10 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds with some pulling and pushing or reaching above, generally of desk and file drawers. Frequent use of hands to operate keyboards and telephones and other office equipment. Regular attendance is an essential function of this job.</b>
