Job Description
Goal: The interventionist will work with teachers and school administrators to identify students who are need of academic support in mathematics. The interventionist will provide instruction that is engaging, academically rigorous, culturally responsive, and aligned to the curriculum standards and frameworks. The interventionist will focus his/her work on the implementation of school and district instructional priorities and adopted curricula, using student performance data and to guide their work. Using the structures of department/grade level team meetings, professional learning community meetings, and professional development time the interventionist will work with teachers and administrators to identify students in need of additional mathematical support. Classroom instruction must be differentiated in order to meet the academic needs of the students.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under direction of authorized administrators shall:
•Demonstrates skill at interpretation of assessment data to drive instruction
•Review data to make instructional decisions to address student weakness
•Utilize instruction management systems which increases student learning and maximizes time on task
•Plan and teach remedial math lessons to classes and small groups of at risk students using state standards, district curriculum,
and various assessments.
•Collaborate with the principal, classroom teachers and other appropriate staff in the school by meeting regularly to provide
coordinated instruction to raise student achievement in mathematics.
•Collaborate with teachers for instruction planning and delivery
•Utilize Response to Intervention (RTI) model and tiered instruction
•Monitor and maintain accurate records on student achievement, articulating the progress and success
•Evaluate student performance and provide parents/guardians with goals and progress reports
•Provide explicit, scientifically based instruction to students
•Fosters a classroom climate conducive to learning
•Promotes and maintains positive relationships between students and parents
•Participate in district and mathematics professional development
•Maintain professional work habits
•Perform other job related duties as assigned by principal or Administrator of Student Interventions



REPORTS TO: Building Principal and Administrator of Student Interventions

The salary and terms of employment will be in accordance with the provisions of the Westfield Public Schools Unit A salary schedule. Salary placement will be based on information contained in the application as submitted.

Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Westfield School Committee's policy on evaluation.

Funding of this position is contingent upon grant funding and enrollment.

Job Requirements
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is generally conducted within school building. Ability to travel throughout the school building is necessary. Position involves sitting and the ability to travel from one place to another within the classroom. Work is light in nature with regular lifting of up to 10 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds with some pulling and pushing or reaching above, generally of desk and file drawers. Frequent use of hands to operate keyboards and telephones and other office equipment and to finger and handle. QUALIFICATIONS: 1.Current and valid MA DESE certification in Math (1-6) 2.Master’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred 3.A minimum of five years of successful teaching experience in mathematics and grade level 4.Understanding a data analysis, differentiated instruction and mathematics interventions 5.Demonstrated student growth on assessments 6. Citizenship, residency or work visa required
