Job Description
Westfield Public Schools is seeking qualified applicants for a ELA TEACHER for the 2023-2024 school year

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the direction of authorized administrators shall:
  1. Teach courses in English Language Arts to students, utilizing course of study adopted by the Westfield School Department, and appropriate curriculum publications as guidelines in teaching individual course content.
  2. Instruct pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
  3. Develop lesson plans and appropriate instructional aids.
  4. Provide individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of pupils with varying intellectual abilities, attitudes, and cultural backgrounds.
  5. Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment.
  6. Evaluate each pupil's progress in English language arts and reading knowledge and skills.
  7. Identify pupil needs, and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils with attitude, and learning problems.
  8. Maintain accurate and complete records as required by administrative regulations.
  9. Supervise pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned work day.
  10. Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs.
  11. Maintain professional competence through in-service education.
  12. Select and requisition books and instructional aids, and maintain required inventory records; may request resource speakers and field trips.
  13. Work cooperatively with all aspects of the school administrative team/faculty and citizens to insure the highest quality of educational programs.
  14. Participate in faculty committees and sponsorship of pupil activities.
  15. Communicate with parents and school counselors to discuss pupil progress.
  16. Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the building principal or the Superintendent of Schools.
REPORTS TO: Building Principal

Salary and terms of employment shall be commensurate with the Westfield Public Schools Unit A contract. Salary placement will be based on information contained in the application as submitted.

Performance on this position will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Westfield School Committee policy on evaluation.

This position subject to funding.

Job Requirements
<b>ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:</b> Work is generally conducted within school building. Ability to travel throughout the school building is necessary. Position involves sitting and the ability to travel from one place to another within the classroom. Work is light in nature with regular lifting of up to 10 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds with some pulling and pushing or reaching above, generally of desk and file drawers. Frequent use of hands to operate keyboards and telephones and other office equipment. Regular attendance, on site, is a an essential function of this job. <b>REQUIREMENTS:</b> <ul><li>Current and valid certification as a teacher of ELA (k-8) issued by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.</ul>
