Job Description
Westfield Public Schools is seeking qualified applicants for openings for the 2022-2023 school year.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Teach concepts and skills in child development and preschool management foods, nutrition, clothing and textiles, home management, family relationships, Teen Parenting and consumer education to secondary pupils, utilizing the course of study adopted by the Westfield Public Schools and other appropriate learning activities.
  2. Instruct pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
  3. Develop lesson plans and appropriate instructional aides.
  4. Provide individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of pupils with varying intellectual abilities, attitudes, and cultural backgrounds.
  5. Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment.
  6. Evaluate each pupil's progress in child development knowledge and skills.
  7. Identify pupil needs, and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils with attitude, and learning problems.
  8. Supervise pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned work day.
  9. Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs.
  10. Work cooperatively with all aspects of the school administrative team/faculty and citizens to insure the highest quality of educational programs.
  11. Maintain professional competence through in-service programs.
  12. Select and requisition books and instructional aids, and maintain required inventory records; may request resource speakers and field trips.
  13. Participate in faculty committees and sponsorship of pupil activities.
  14. Communicate with parents and school counselors to discuss pupil progress.
  15. Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the building principal or the Superintendent of Schools.
REPORTS TO: Building Principal

Salary and terms of employment commensurate with provisions of the Westfield Public Schools Unit A contract. Salary placement will be based on information contained in the application as submitted.

EVALUATION: Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Westfield School Committee's policy on evaluation.

This position subject to funding.

Job Requirements
<b>QUALIFICATIONS:</b> <ul> <li>Current and valid certificaton in Health/Family and Consumer Science (All) issued by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is generally conducted within school building. Ability to travel throughout the school building is necessary. Position involves sitting and the ability to travel from one place to another within the classroom. Work is light in nature with regular lifting of up to 10 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds with some pulling and pushing or reaching above, generally of desk and file drawers. Frequent use of hands to operate keyboards and telephones and other office equipment. Regular attendance, on site, is an essential function of this job.
  • Bachelor degree preferred
