TITLE: 1.0 FTE School Guidance Counselor / Career Counselor
SALARY: As per BTA Salary Schedule
LOCATION: Bellingham High School

Primary Responsibility: This school counselor will serve as a career counselor and the Innovation Pathway Coordinator. The counselor works with high school students and provides career exploration opportunities, organizes and manages internship experiences, and assists with securing student employment. The career counselor will assist students with Bellingham High School in career development opportunities – such as Innovation Pathways, Dual Enrollment opportunities, and student internships. This position will also be responsible for developing and maintaining business and industry partnership to enhance internship opportunities.

Specific Responsibilities:

Assess students for interests and aptitudes using evidence-based tools
Provide career exploration opportunities by:
a) Providing career-specific information and materials
b) Assisting with planned career-specific field trips and speakers
(especially around employers)
Collaborate with the school to develop a career fair
Provide work readiness services, such as:
Resume writing, interviewing skills, business etiquette (timeliness,
dress correctly, etc.)
Recruit and engage employers to:
Provide internship placements or jobs
Serve as liaison to business after placement to troubleshoot issues
“Screen” candidates prior to placement, and job match
Provide opportunities for employers to support career exploration efforts
Support students while at work by:
Use a Work-Based Learning Plan as a measure of competencies and
skill-building tool, and as support for employer
In school:
Facilitate engagement of school administration, guidance personnel, and teachers, making them aware of career services available to students
Meet with students regularly to create and manage MyCAP (My Career and Academic Plan)
Assist students with course selection and Innovation Pathways opportunities
Adhere to DESE mandates for program and placement protocols
Collect and submit participant data on scheduled deadlines in the required format

Qualifications: Master’s degree required, Massachusetts School Counselor certification. Minimum of five years experience working with young people and/or employment and training programs, preferred. Other work and community experiences will be taken into consideration.
