Job Description

DATE: July 8, 2022
TITLE: Preschool Classroom Instructional Learning Assistant
LOCATION:Preschool Stall Brook School
SALARY: As per AFSCME Contract

1.Under supervision of a certified Early Childhood Teacher, prepares for classroom activities.
2.Works with small student/small groups of students to reinforce concepts initially introduced by the teacher.
3.Assists individual child in need of remedial education.
4.Performs instructional duties as directed.
5.Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work developed by the teacher.
6.Sets up audio-visual equipment.
7.Assists the teacher with non-instructional classroom duties, such as snack, toileting and clothing routines.
8.Assists with reading and storytelling.
9.Assists small groups of students in the library.
10.Assists the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing materials or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of
individual students, their needs, interests and abilities.
11.Serves as the chief source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.
12.Alerts the regular teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student.
13.Assists in preparing class displays and bulletin boards.
14.Participates in in-service training programs.
15.Checks and records student attendance.
16.Assists with the supervision of students during assemblies, play periods, and on field trips.
17.Conducts learning exercises with small groups of children.
18.Assists teacher in maintaining neat work and play areas.
19.Maintains the same level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully licensed
20.Instructional Learning Assistants will also perform related duties outside the classroom assigned by the classroom teacher.
21. Any other duties as assigned by Building Principal or Director of BECP.
22.Adheres to the adopted policies of the Bellingham School Committee.

1.Good health - willing to submit to medical examination.
2.Must have earned a secondary high school diploma.
3.Must have completed at least 48 credit hours at an institution of higher education; or obtained an Associate’s Degree or higher, or passed either the WorkKeys or ParaPro Assessment; or completed a local assessment program aligned with MA DOE policies.
4.Preferably, some experience as a teacher aide with first aide and/or CPR training.
5.A high degree of patience and tact in dealing with the general public, parents, teachers, administrators, prospective teachers
and other personnel.
6.Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.
7.Preferably, experience with computer technology.
