Job Description

DATE: June 16, 2022
TITLE: Marching Band Assistant Director
SALARY: As per Basic Teacher’s Salary Schedule
FUNCTION: To assist the Marching Band Director with the responsibility for directing and supervising appropriate activities as
practice sessions, games, performances, parades, pep rallies, competitions and meetings. Directly responsible to the
building principal.

LOCATION: Bellingham High School

1.Teach, mentor and coach students in best practices and techniques in the marching arts.
2. Teach, mentor and coach students in musicianship and fundamental instrumental techniques for individual instruments.
3. Attend all marching band rehearsal/practice sessions, including but not limited to August band camp, weekly rehearsals, home
football games, Bellingham Memorial Parade in May and various other performances.
4. Work cooperatively with the Marching Band Director, Percussion Coach and Color Guard coaches to help design, and implement a
cohesive marching band show/performances during the season.
5. Establish and maintain standards of student expectations, to provide a respective and productive environment for all band related
6. Maintain necessary attendance records, instrument inventory records, coordinate instrument repairs and paperwork.
7. Represent the school and community as a conductor of student ensembles in music performances at school and community
8. Be a team player, positive role model, flexible and contributing member of the school community and music department.
9. Create and foster an inclusive and culturally sensitive classroom environment that is supportive of all students’ academic and social
10. Must accompany the band at all practice sessions, home and away games and other school-sanctioned activities.
11. If needed, the assistant director should be prepared to fill-in for the Marching Band Director for an unexpected absence.
12. Assume responsibility for the facility or area in which assigned activity is conducted at all times students are present.
13. Assumes responsibilities for related duties that may be assigned by the building Principal, Fine Arts Coordinator or Marching Band
14. Adheres to the adopted policies of the Bellingham School Committee.

1. Preferably a member of the High School teaching staff.
2.Exerience and background in music and marching techniques.

2. Demonstrated ability to relate favorably with students.
