DATE: June 6, 2022 TITLE:1.0 FTE School Nurse for Keough Memorial School SALARY:Per BTA Contract
FUNCTION:To assist in providing the fullest possible educational opportunity for each student by minimizing absence due to illness and creating a climate of health and well being in all schools. The School Nurse is directly responsible to the School Principal.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Verifies incoming student immunization records and health files. 2. Conducts State Mandated screenings; vision, hearing etc. 3. Observes students on a regular basis to detect health needs. 4. Maintains up-to-date cumulative health records on all students. 5. Reports and makes recommendations to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics and other agencies on student health matters. 6. Assumes authority, in the absence of a physician, for the care of a student or staff member who has suffered and injury or emergency illness. 7. Administers first aid in accordance with established first aid procedures. 8. Implements policy on exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases. 9. Collaborates with teachers on health issues and health related curriculum. 10. Attends Staff Meetings and presents to staff instruction around allergies, epi-pen administration, seizure protocol, head trauma etc…. 11. Participates in inservice programs. 12. Assists school personnel in maintaining sanitary standards in schools. 13. Assumes other general related responsibilities as may be assigned, which may include temporary fill-in duties in other buildings. 14. Adheres to the adopted policies of the Bellingham School committee. 15. Student home visit when necessary. 16. Attends 504/IEP meetings as necessary 17. Creates IHPs as necessary 18. Oversees the immunization and healthcare status of Pre-school staff in accordance with DESE requirements
EXPERIENCE: 1.A minimum of two years of child health, community health, or other relevant clinical nursing experience. 2.Previous experience working with students with social emotional disabilities preferred. 3.Such alternatives to the above requirements as the School Committee may find appropriate and acceptable.
EDUCATIONAL PREPARATION: 1.The applicant must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. 2.Registered Nurse with valid license to practice in Massachusetts 3.MA DESE School Nurse License Required. 4.With regard to orientation the applicant needs to attend a new school nurse orientation offered by the Department of Public Health School Health Unit. 5.Current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid from a recognized provider.
PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS: 1.Good health – willing to submit to a medical exam. 2.Ability to relate with all students and establish a good rapport. 3.Must be a person of professional and personal integrity. 4.Possess good organizational skills.

The Keough Memorial Academy (formally The Paul J. Primavera Jr./Sr. High School) began in 1989 as an alternative school for students who were not making progress in a traditional general educational setting. We continue that mission to this day. Our goal is to help students become successful and productive members of society by coupling high academic rigor and a focus on each student’s strengths to ensure a truly individualized educational experience. Keough Memorial Academy graduates have met all MCAS, NECAP, and credit requirements for a Massachusetts or Rhode Island High School Diploma in hopes that they may continue on with their post secondary education.
Keough Memorial Academy is an alternative high school serving Special Education students from Bellingham and surrounding communities. We adhere to Massachusetts and Rhode Island Curriculum Standards. MCAS, NECAP and R.I. portfolio requirements.
KEOUGH PROVIDES
An educational setting, which includes Functional Behavioral Assessment and Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support (PBIS).
Based on 37H 3Ž4-IAES (Interim Alternative Educational Setting). Primavera provides evaluative services for districts.
Small class sizes with individualized instruction and support.
Accommodations and curriculum modifications per the student’s Individualized Education Plan.
Physical Education, Health, and Art Electives. Work Study is also available.
School Adjustment Counselor and School Guidance Counselor provide individual/group counseling, guidance, and transitional assistance.
Daily Social Skills/ Character Education instruction for all students.
