Job Description
Function: To evaluate and provide services to students who have been identified with speech, hearing and/or a language disability that directly interferes with individual student’s ability to access the curriculum and educational success . The Speech and Language Pathologist works directly under the supervision of the WED Speech and Language Department Chairperson. Duties: 1. Develops individual education program (IEP) for students who qualify for speech and/or language services. 2. Provides services to meet the needs of individuals who have qualified under the criteria of having speech, hearing and/or a language disability with emphasis upon academic and achievement in the school environment. 3. Provides screenings for students who have suspected speech, language and/or hearing deficits that are affecting classroom performance and achievement in school. The SLP will be aware of and involved in the building based MTSS (Mult-Tiered System of Supports) within their assigned buildings in order to provide interventions to students who have been identified through related screening protocols and/or observations by the SLP. 4. Provides thorough assessments in areas of articulation, fluency, voice, hearing and language (expressive, receptive and social language). 5. Provides information, support and carryover strategies for speech and language skills to parents and families. 6. Maintains thorough on-going records for the individual students receiving speech & language services as a means of effective data collection and progress monitoring. 7. Consults frequently with parents, teachers and support personnel with regard to the individual child’s progress, current goals and objectives and to make recommendations about strategies that could be used both in the home and in classroom to enhance carryover of skills. 9. Provides in-service training and professional development to classroom teachers and support personnel as needed. 10. Assumes responsibilities for related duties within their specific assignment that may be assigned by administration.

Job Requirements
Experience: 1. Preferable, at least one year’s experience as a Speech and Language Pathologist. 2. Such alternatives, such as Clinical Fellowship Interns, to the above experiential requirements will be determined case by case. Educational Preparation: 1. A Bachelor’s degree from an institution approved by the State Board of Regents and a Master’s Degree in the field of speech and language will be required. 2. The applicant must have or be in the process of obtaining a clinical certificate of competence through ASHA (American Speech Language and Hearing Association). Clinical Fellowship Year interns will be considered. 3. The applicant must hold or be able to qualify for a teaching certificate as a Speech and Language Therapist issued by the Rhode Island Department of Education. 4. The applicant must hold an active license through the Rhode Island Department of Health
