ANNOUNCEMENT OF A VACANCY FOR THE
2021-2022 SCHOOL YEAR

Supervisor of Attendance
DISTRICT WIDE

Job Goal:
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Student Services, the Supervisor of Attendance serves as a liaison between school, home, and community agencies to promote and enhance student attendance and adjustment to school routines. The Supervisor of Attendance conducts community meetings, training, and home visits to determine cause of student absences and truancy.

Qualifications:
?Evidence of two years satisfactory full-time, paid experience as a professional public or private; school teacher, or guidance counselor; health, welfare or social worker; as an aide to a supervisor of attendance; or as a parole, probation or law enforcement official whose major responsibilities during these two years have been working with juveniles and/or in home investigations;
?Evidence of knowledge of the laws concerning school attendance and of services available to children with attendance problems;
?Evidence of possession of a bachelor's or higher earned degree and a minimum of 18 semester hours in psychology, guidance and/or social work at an accredited or approved four-year college.
?Human relation skills to initiate contact and conversation with others, be persuasive, facilitate small group processes and training, resolve confrontation, and demonstrate sensitivity to the diverse ethnic, cultural, social, and economic backgrounds of students and parents;
?Requires the ability to work varying work hours, including evenings and weekends;
?Requires the ability to work indoors and outdoors engaged in active physical exercise;
?A valid Massachusetts driver’s license is required;
?Work is performed indoors in an office/classroom environment where minimal, yet some health and safety considerations exist from physically aggressive student behaviors

Responsibilities:
•Meet with principals, counselors, teachers, and other staff members concerning student attendance referrals;
•Participate in weekly Student Support Team meetings, present attendance and discipline data;
•Review student records to identify irregular attendance patterns;
•Research and /or trace a student’s change of home address or school;
•Provide off-site assistance to school attendance reporting staff by verifying student absence/attendance, making phone calls, and following up with home visits;
•Visit the homes of students with attendance problems, providing guidance to parents on how they can assist in improving student attendance and academic success;
•Advise parents and students on the necessity for regular attendance, providing information about State requirements and school district rules and regulations;
•Make observations about home situations and observe student special needs, and, as needed, refer students/families to appropriate agencies;
•Facilitate and participate in home-based and/or community-based meetings for parents that are designed to provide discussion and information on improving parent-to-school relationships and enhancing student learning;
•Prepare and present oral and written reports concerning home visits and prepare other reports and records as requested by appropriate school and state agencies;
•Perform qualify assurance reviews of documentation, reports, and files assembled by others, that are used for formal hearings and proceedings;
•May provide transportation to students and parents in special circumstances within school rules and policies or may provide emergency assistance;
•Arrange for transportation and appointments for students and families to receive school-related immunizations, physicals, medical care and clothing;
•Investigate complaints from public and other agencies regarding student absences;
•Serve as a team facilitator on projects or task forces designed to enhance student attendance;
•Apprehend and take to school, without a warrant, any truant or absentee found wandering in the streets or public places.
•Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.
•Assists in all aspects of Emergency Preparedness.
•Coordinates and facilitates Behavioral Supports.

Work Schedule:
211 work days which include 5 consecutive days prior to the first day of school and 5 consecutive days after the last day of school.
