2021-2022 SCHOOL YEAR

Innovation Crew
SOMERVILLE PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Do you have a student-centered idea percolating and just need resources and compensated time to prototype? Or perhaps you are currently working on something and need additional support and funding. Does this following statement refer to you?
“If I had _____ I could do _____.”

Consider applying to join the inaugural Innovation Crew. As a member of the team you and your idea will have access to coaching and support from members of the local Greater Boston Innovation Community and staff from Somerville Public Schools as well as a modest materials budget. The goal of our new group is to provide each other with vision, design, and implementation support for your innovative, student-centered, project ideas. You will be tasked with identifying at least one project to explore that also meets Somerville Public Schools’ educational goals with a particular focus on how this project will impact student outcomes and experiences. We all are innovative in our own ways. Let’s carve out the time and utilize available resources to support each other as we pursue our projects. Your idea may even be applicable at other schools or across the district. Let’s explore the possibilities!

Preferred Qualifications:
?At least 1 year of experience as a member of the Somerville Public Schools staff
?Committed to group brainstorming, peer-to-peer support, and conducting project evaluations
?Willingness to facilitate professional development and workshops for colleagues, students, and families as needed
?Reflective communication and collaboration skills
?Readiness and eagerness to explore and pilot educational innovations
Responsibilities:

?Attends three whole group meetings: December kickoff, February team check-in, and April final showcase.
?Attend regular project update meetings or provide regular updates via other methods as needed
?Works collaboratively with the District Innovation Project Specialist
?Coordinates with appropriate SPS staff based on project scope
?Supports student-centered approach through interactive projects
?Champions open-minded and innovative thinking by modeling commitment to our team values
?Optional opportunity to plan and execute professional development based on your project scope
?Co-leads in the ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of innovation projects

Terms of Employment:
Yearly Appointment
Schedule: November 2021-June 2022
Out of Regular/School hours
Stipend: $675 ($27 per hour worked / Total of 25 work hours)
Materials Budget:$351
Position Reports to: Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment

Position works closely with: Innovation Specialist, Technology Department, School-based EdTech Learning Consultants
