Job Description
ANNOUNCEMENT OF A VACANCY FOR THE
2021-2022 SCHOOL YEAR

Education Technology Learning Specialists
DISTRICT WIDE

Job Goal: An Education Technology Learning Specialist first and foremost provides students and staff from their school with a representative voice and acts as an advocate when it comes to school specific education technology ideas, needs, and issues. An EdTech Learning Specialist (ETLS) also provides visionary support and optional management opportunities in the implementation of innovative, curriculum embedded, digital tools and provides leadership in the development of cutting-edge technology competencies for educators and the software application to support them. The ETLS assists with identifying school-based needs for staff and students and provides feedback about existing and future hardware and software products by designing and implementing systems of support to meet Somerville Public Schools’ educational goals. This individual also has the optional opportunity to co-lead in the development and implementation of education technology plans.

The group's initial focus will be to collect and analyze data about edtech progress and challenges facing each school community. In order to make recommendations to District and School leadership, we must first better understand the education technology landscape as it currently exists with special attention on how the pandemic and remote learning has reshaped learning and technology. What have we learned from our time during remote learning? How can we better leverage technology in the classroom now that we are back in-person? The group is meant to primarily play an advisory role. If the group determines a project must occur outside of the scheduled meeting times, a separate compensated working group will be formed to investigate and research the issue.

Preferred Qualifications:
?At least 1 year of experience as a member of the Somerville Public Schools staff
?General expertise with Google Suite for Education, Aspen X2, SmartNotebook, and other district-wide digital tools
?Willingness to facilitate professional development and workshops for colleagues, students, and families
?Reflective communication and collaboration skills
?Readiness and eagerness to explore and pilot educational technologies
Responsibilities:
?Attends monthly district-wide meetings with EdTech Learning Specialists and stakeholders.
?Works collaboratively with the District Innovation Project Specialist, other ETLS staff, Technology Specialists, Student Tech Leaders, additional staff, students, and families to co-design and implement a variety of interconnected curricula and tools for K-12 learning environments.
?Coordinates with the Innovation Project Specialist, Instructional Leadership Teams, classroom educators, and other staff members using digital tools and curriculum to implement district-wide and/or school based edTech projects and initiatives, co-facilitate professional development, and support school based colleagues
?Supports digital literacy instruction with a specific focus on grade levels that have access to Chromebook Carts and iPad Carts.
?Champions digital wellness through models of ethics, safety, and citizenship in the use of digital learning resources for staff, students, and families.
?Collaborates with the technology department
?Optional co-coordination and implementation of the annual EdTechCon, the District Summer Technology Conference
?Plays a supporting role in the district's budgetary process to ensure funding for instructional technology programs.
?Leads in the ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of instructional technology programs.
