2021-2022 SCHOOL YEAR

Academic Tutor
SOMERVILLE PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Job Goal: The Redirect, Bridge and Path programs are flexible and respond to the changing needs of students. The staff in these programs individually support students in a variety of academic, organizational, and social emotional ways. Students receive support in staying on top of academic work, completing outstanding assignments, communicating with their teachers and developing increased self-efficacy and social emotional awareness.
Qualifications and Skills Preferred:
•Active and valid MA DESE (Mathematics and/or Science) preferred but not required
•Experience working with high school students
•Excellent interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with school staff and students
•Ability to build relationships and teach all types of learners
•Flexible and able to switch gears quickly
•Bilingual preferred
•Available to work 7:45 am - 2:45 pm (Monday – Friday for the school year)
Responsibilities:
•Comfortable with tutoring all high school subjects (Math, Science, History and English)
•Able to collaborate with students’ teachers to support their academic success (e.g. collecting homework, negotiating deadlines, facilitating relationships between teachers)
•Ability to oversee the coordination of student’s school work by developing tracking tools or use of other systems to support student’s organizational skills and the submission of school work
•Ability to support teacher/counselor in classroom management and coverage

Position Reports to: School Principal and the SHS Guidance Department Chair
