Job Description

General Description: The Technology Coordinator is responsible for coordinating 1:1 mobile device programs (i.e. Chromebooks), student supported help desks, technical trainings, technical documentation, and assisting on systems support throughout the District community. The Technology Coordinator position is part of the District Technology Department and reports directly to the Director of Technology for Somerville Public Schools.

Minimum Qualifications:
•Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Computer Science, and/or Information Systems, supplemented with 3+ years of relevant experience; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities;
•Valid Massachusetts Driver’s License;
•Demonstrated ability to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: utilizing diagnostic and application software; adhering to safety practices; and maintaining accurate records.
•Demonstrated ability to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and solve practical problems.
•Demonstrated knowledge of: multiplatform personal computers and peripheral equipment; appropriate system security; associated peripheral equipment; server configurations; and troubleshooting methodologies.
•Demonstrated ability to work with a wide diversity of individuals and adapting to changing work priorities;
•Demonstrate ability to train an audience in formal and informal settings on technology related topics.
•Demonstrate ability to create comprehensive documentation on technology related topics.

Physical Requirements
•Position requires ability to operate a variety of equipment including computer hardware and software, office equipment, etc. Must be physically able to operate motor vehicles. Must be able to exert up to 30 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1.Assess malfunctions of mobile devices and network hardware, software applications or electronic equipment for the purpose of identifying repair and replacement needs.

2.Assist the Technology Department in monitoring wireless network equipment for the purpose of maintaining overall site operations.

3.Configure device hardware, peripherals, and application software for the purpose of maintaining overall site operations.

4.Perform basic network troubleshooting for the purpose of maintaining critical site operations.

5.Prepare status reports and related materials for the purpose of documenting activities and providing written reference.

6.Recommend hardware and software acquisitions, with approval of Technology Department (e.g. assessing needs, justifying purchases, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring availability of required technology.

7.Respond to a variety of questions from site staff, parents and students for the purpose of providing information, guidance or referral.

8.Support classroom activities for classes using mobile devices for the purpose of providing information regarding procedures, processes and safety.

9.Train school site staff on a variety of software applications and hardware operations (e.g. email, file sharing, collaboration applications, etc.) for the purpose of providing ongoing support and maximizing the capabilities of assigned staff.

10.Assist other personnel as may be required for the purpose of contributing to the efficiency and effectiveness of the work unit.

11.Attend school site and Technology Department meetings for the purpose of providing and/or gathering information relating to job functions.

12.Attends seminars related to new technologies and 21st Century Learning.

13.Assists with deployment of technology projects (hardware and software) in the District.

14.Assists with deployment of mobile device technologies and management.

15.Coordinates site specific 1:1 mobile device assignments for students under the guidance of the Director of Technology.

16.Coordinates site specific student supported help desk operation under the guidance of the Director of Technology.

17.Assists Curriculum and Instruction department leaders on technology and innovation initiatives.

18.Leads inventory tracking and management of mobile student devices (i.e. Chromebooks).

19.Leads coordination of Technology department training workshop offerings.

20.Leads coordination of Technology department management of mobile student devices.

21.Creates and maintains technical documentation and user guide library for the department.

22.All other duties as assigned by the Director of Technology.
