JOB DESCRIPTION:
TITLE: School Nurse Teacher
REPORTS TO: Building Principal/Director of Pupil Personnel Services
DIRECTLY SUPERVISES: N/A

Under direction of the school principal and/or appropriate supervisor, provides health and wellness services to students in individual and classroom settings. Communicates and interacts with students, families, staff and community. Develops, selects and modifies instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students. Maintains appropriate records and follows required procedures and practices. Monitors appropriate use and care of equipment, materials and facilities.

EDUCATION TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s Degree in applicable field of education from an accredited college or university.

CERTIFICATE/LICENSE REQUIRED:
Certificate required by the Rhode Island State Department of Education. Current Rhode Island Teacher Certificates in the appropriate subject area and level. School Nurse Teacher PK-12.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND CURRICULAR LINKAGES:
1. Coordinates with parents and staff regarding students with medical needs that must be addressed in the school setting.
2. Serves as a resource to advisors and faculty.
3. Consults with teachers regarding individual and classroom behavior issues, as requested.
4. Participates in MTSS, IEP and 504 meetings.
5. Interprets medical results and school records of students for parents and other faculty and staff members and provides training as appropriate, e.g.: Epi-pen, health-related screenings.
6. Coordinates the administration of testing and screening, as necessary.
7. Counsels students regarding educational and health related concerns in concert with the administration and other appropriate professionals.
8. Counsels students with health and wellness issues and refers them to appropriate school personnel and/or community agencies.
9. Helps to de-escalate emotional/medical situations.
10. Meets with parents and appropriate staff to discuss health issues, records, and pertinent transition information.
11. Meets with parents and assists with referring to community health agencies, as needed.
12. Serves as a resource to parents (e.g., information sharing) and an advocate for students.
13. Confers with State and community agencies regarding health and medical needs.
14. Forms strong working relationships with the other district nursing staff.
15. Submits reports as directed in a timely fashion-both electronically and paper.
16. Uses student information system and online systems effectively and efficiently.
17. Assists in registration process when needed.
18. Adheres to the Rhode Island Educator Code of Professional Responsibility.
19. Works collaboratively with peers at the school and district level to improve teaching, learning and educational programming for students.
20. Performs other duties as designated by the building Principal.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS STANDARDS:
Demonstrated proficiency with computer applications, Google Suite, Microsoft Office applications, e-mail, Web applications, and industry-specific technology or willingness to learn in a timely fashion.
