2021-2022 SCHOOL YEAR

2021 Acceleration Academies
SOMERVILLE HIGH SCHOOL - MATH: RISING 10TH GRADERS
EAST SOMERVILLE COMMUNITY SCHOOL - MATH: RISING 8TH GRADERS
ALBERT F. ARGENZIANO SCHOOL - EARLY LITERACY

Job Goal: To accelerate student learning through engaging, standards-aligned lessons that meet the specific academic needs of students participating in the program. Each Acceleration Academy focuses on a specific content area and students who attend an Academy receive the equivalent of approximately one extra month of learning in one week. Acceleration Academy classes can either provide students with targeted supports to master grade-level standards or provide accelerated learning opportunities for advanced learners.

Disclosure: All positions listed are subject to funding availability and student enrollment; courses may be cancelled due to lack of enrollment.

Facilitators (3) Academic Coaches (3)
Preferred Qualifications:
•Experience facilitating multi-dimensional program(s) (student safety, program planning, supervision of staff, interns, and volunteers, managing supplies, etc.)
•Experience in curriculum development and in planning and providing professional development to staff
•Ability to maintain a safe and healthy environment for students
•Bilingual/multilingual and ability to communicate with diverse students and families

Responsibilities:
•Observe teachers several times throughout the week and complete a teacher observation form
•Provide teachers constructive feedback throughout the week
•Provide student support as needed

Terms of Employment:
•Yearly Appointment
•Schedule: Monday – Friday / 7:30 AM – 2:30 PM
•Start Date: August 23, 2021
•End Date: August 27, 2021
•Stipend: $3,000

Academy Teachers (6):
Early Literacy Preferred Qualifications:
•ESL/ELL License and/or experience in teaching English Language Learners.
•Special Education License and/or experience in teaching dually identified English Learners with Special Needs.
•Experience teaching in SPELL.
•Ability to maintain a safe and healthy environment for students.
•Bilingual/multilingual and ability to communicate with diverse students and families.
•SPELL Curriculum Development and WIDA/ELL Professional Development are required.

Math Preferred Qualifications:
•Appropriate Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Educator's Licensure and SEI Endorsement is required. (ESL or ELL Licensure Preferred)
•Strong middle school and high schools Mathematics content knowledge
•Successful years of improved student learning
•Bilingual speaker preferred.

Terms of Employment:
•Yearly Appointment
•Schedule: Monday – Friday / 7:30 AM – 2:30 PM
•Start Date: August 23, 2021
•End Date: August 27, 2021
•Stipend: $3,000

Academy Paraprofessionals (6):
Preferred Qualifications:
•Experience as an ELL/SEI Paraprofessional and/or in supporting English Language Learners in school settings.
•Experience as a Paraprofessional in SPELL and or middle/ high school Math classes
•Ability to maintain a safe and healthy environment for students.
•Bilingual/multilingual and ability to communicate with diverse students and families.

Terms of Employment:
•Yearly Appointment
•Schedule: Monday – Friday / 8:00 AM – 2:30 PM
•Start Date: August 23, 2021
•End Date: August 27, 2021
•Stipend: $1,500

Cafeteria Managers (3):
Responsibilities:
•Responsible for the efficient operation of the cafeteria, including preparation and serving meals, cleanup of the kitchen and equipment, keeping all transactions (if any), necessary records, and planning schedules of the cafeteria and kitchen employees.

•Yearly Appointment
•Monday – Friday Schedule / 7:00 AM – 1:00 PM
•Start Date: August 23, 2021
•End Date: August 27, 2021
•Stipend: $1, 050
