Provisional COVID19 Health Assistants

Job Goal: The COVID-19 Health Room Assistants will provide student monitoring and screening duties in the Somerville Public Schools. Special Requirements:
Certified Nursing Assistant, LPN or RN
CPR, Basic First Aid and AED certification
Position may require some travel, within the City and between schools.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience:
High school degree
One to three (1-3) years of prior work experience
Certified Nursing Assistant, LPN or RN required
Experience in nursing/clinical environment or working with elementary and secondary school students preferred
Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skill:

Knowledge: Working knowledge of health screening protocols and resources, familiarity with common public health and social issues. Contact tracing experience and knowledge.

Abilities: Ability to interact appropriately and sensitively with students; ability to interact well with staff, participants and caregivers; ability to speak effectively and to communicate with individuals and groups; ability to adapt and be flexible in response to quickly to changing situations.

Skills: CPR, Basic First Aid and AED trained/certified. Excellent oral and written communication skills; technical abilities to work with current screening mechanisms and adapt to new tools; working hardware and software computer skills; skill in working with individuals with mental and/or physical challenges; patience and understanding. This position requires strong skills in oral and written communication; excellent customer service skills. Bi-lingual or multilingual ability in Spanish, Portuguese, Haitian-Creole and/or Nepali is desirable.

Set up, and dismantle triage station/equipment if needed
Conduct screenings and record the results; notify School Nurse and parents/guardians of those children who show symptoms of COVID-19;
Monitor students with COVID-19 symptoms while waiting for pick-up;
Sanitize and keep health rooms clean;
Maintain and update student health records;
Operate specialized equipment to screen students;
Perform related clerical duties and functions in school health offices
Assist School and Nursing staff with data entry, student escort, inventory, and other office support
This is a safety sensitive position.
