Job Description

REPORTS TO: Coordinator of Buildings & Grounds


1. Provides initial response, triage, stabilization and/or repair on HVAC Systems. Inspects, adjusts, modifies, repairs all type of commercial heating and ventilation systems, and air conditioning systems according to manufacturer’s specifications.

2. Install, maintain and repair air duct systems, piping and control wiring, according to established procedures for heat load and equipment.

3. Maintaining Worcester schools Boilers per Massachusetts State inspections codes.
4. Perform seasonal maintenance on centrifugal and reciprocation chiller and water towers including 5-150 ton units.

5. Perform water treatment and maintenance for cooling towers and chilled water systems according to established procedures.

6. Install, inspect and maintains warm and cold air steam and hot water heating and ventilating units according to established procedures and manufacturers specifications.

7. Maintains appropriate environmental conditions in all classroom, gym, computer, and lab areas as demonstrated by maintaining humidity, thermometer, and air flow levels within acceptable ranges.

8. Maintenance of all building equipment, VAV’s, fan coils, unit ventilators, HV’s, RTU’s, Chillers, exhausts, pumps and commercial Boilers.

1. Must possess a current Massachusetts HVAC and Journeyman License (or equivalent).

2. Must possess EPA universal license.

3. Must possess a valid driver’s license.

4. Must supply a complete set of hand tools.

5. Required to wear/use appropriate safety clothing/equipment at all times.

6. Availability to work overtime as necessary.


1. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50lbs.

2. Must be able to stoop and bend for long periods of time and work on hands and knees.

3. Must be able to work alone.

4. Must be able to climb ladders and carry all necessary tools.

5. Must be available to respond to emergency calls after hours.


1. Must observe and comply with all standard safety codes and practices, perform work in accordance with recognized trade and City of Worcester standards.

2. Must be able to effectively communicate with peers and customers.

SALARY: $24.82/Hour

WORK YEAR:12 months

WORK DAY: 1:30 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. Monday through Friday
