SOMERVILLE CENTER FOR ADULT LEARNING EXPERIENCES

Job Goal: SCALE’s Part Time Chief Examiner of Assessments is responsible for the oversite and coordination of adult learner Assessments that include Best Plus, TABE, MaPT, and/or Accuplacer.

SCALE’s Part Time Chief Examiner of Assessments will be scheduled on an as-needed/per diem basis. SCALE will provide compensation on an hourly basis for development, delivery, internal training, testing scheduling, reporting, and leading and developing standards and instructions for all DESE adult learner assessment tools. Schedule is highly dependent on student needs and will vary from day-to-day and week-to-week and, as such, we cannot guarantee work each day. Our peak times of the year include August through September, January, and April - May.

Qualifications:
•Bachelor’s Degree in education or related field required.
•Experience working with adult learners remotely and in-person
•Fluency with using digital tools including online assessment and instructional tools;
•Demonstrates a high level of comfort discussing assessment data with teachers, advisors, students and SCALE leaders;
•Best Plus, TABE, and/or MaPT certified Assessors preferred.
•Experience with adult education practice, policy, and systems.
•Knowledge of ACLS standards, curriculum, assessment, testing standards
•Demonstrate leadership qualities, cultural competency, and interpersonal skills necessary to work effectively and collaboratively.
•Excellent written and oral communication skills.
•Excellent organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
•Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to build strong relationships with students, teachers, advisors and administrators.
•Ability to be flexible and able to adapt to immediate or unforeseen challenges.
•Superb computer skills
•Experienced educator, multilingual, with experience in language acquisition preferred;
•Strong organizational skills.
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
•Excellent technological skills to create efficient systems of communication.
•Experience working in an urban setting and with diverse groups.

Responsibilities:
•Work with SCALE’s program administrators and the Director of Continuing Education to determine schedules, instruments, and professional development needs for SCALE;
•Work with teachers and counselors to obtain information about students’ strengths and needs as required to be included in student goal setting files and progress reports;
•Determine academic proficiency level, strengths, and weaknesses of each student (using standardized and non-standardized assessments)
•Administer assessments reports to share in Leadership and department meetings.
•Work collaboratively with Data Clerk and Education and Career Advisors to monitor student enrollment hours to ensure timely assessment testing has been conducted;
•Work collaboratively with Program Administrators to update and organize all required testing materials;
•Work collaboratively with ADA Coordinator/ABE PA to ensure student accommodations are provided and documented;
•Provide logistical support, displacement planning and test administration support for each test
•Keep all relevant documents updated with testing schedule and information

Terms of Employment:
?This is a union position and is year-round.
?The work day is based on student registration needs, schedule to be determined with Supervisors of SCALE. Peak times are in the summer from August – September, December – January, and April -May.
?This position is contingent on funding approval.

Welcome to Somerville Center for Adult Learning Experiences!

Since 1974, SCALE has provided classes and support services to more than 1,200 adult learners (16 years and older) annually who need basic reading, writing and math skills, English instruction for non-native speakers, or a high-school credential. SCALE's fully accessible facilities have a computer lab and an on-site HiSET Test Center. ELL and ABE classes are free.
