Job Description

Under general supervision performs a variety of security and reception-related functions that support general school operations. Responsibilities include; but may not be limited to, CCTV, Two-way Radio, Public Address, and Access Control system within the Security Operations Center. Incumbents must be capable of working reliably and independently and must have some basic computer knowledge and skills in order to properly monitor and manage the computer-based systems within the Security Operations Center.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

•Monitors and operates CCTV camera system
•Monitors Badge Access Control System
•Operates the Security Office as a Command Center in the event of school emergencies
•Communications via school two-way radio system with Maintenance and Custodial staff operating in the building
•Performs security checks and response to building security issues as needed. Communicates with Canton Police, Fire and Facilities management for any emergency situations
•Maintains communication with school offices/departments via school networked computer (Email), and security cell telephone
•Greets school visitors and administers visitor sign-in policy
•Perform “watchman” duties by conducting guard tours throughout the building; checking for unlocked/unsecure doors/entries, open or broken windows, heat/boiler system failures, broken/leaking pipes, smoke/fire situations, unauthorized building entry, power/electrical problems, etc.
•Cross training with weekday Security duties.
•When needed, back up for weekday Security on vacation and sick day request.
•Other related Security duties as assigned

Job Requirements
Qualifications: Knowledge of: •Computer operations, entering and retrieving data, using school email system and keeping security logs •Security concepts and principals •Radio and telephone operations protocol Ability to: •Understand and carry out both written and oral instructions •Maintain work schedules, set task priorities and work without constant direct supervision in the performance of assigned tasks •Read, recognize, and understand: manufacturers written instructions, computerized equipment operating instructions, and school emergency response plans. Training and Experience: •High School diploma, past experience in security operations preferred, basic computer skills
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience preferred
  • High School/Trade School degree preferred
  • Citizenship, residency or work VISA in United States required
