Domain Specialist for ELA Pathway: Instructional Coaching
SOMERVILLE PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Job Goal: Support the growth and development of educators in targeted areas of practice aligned with student and teacher needs and district priorities. Improve teaching and learning by strengthening the use of effective instructional practices across the district. Create a supportive, collegial professional community. Contribute to the retention of high-quality, effective educators in the Somerville Public Schools.

Qualifications:
•Current SEU, Unit A Member
•Expertise in relevant domain or possesses specialized certification
•Capacity to build trust and ownership among educators
•Knowledge of best practices and research-based strategies for professional and adult learning
•Strong familiarity with culturally responsive and equitable strategies
•Effective communication, listening, and interpersonal skills with teachers and leaders
•Goal and action oriented with ability to help educators monitor milestones and progress
•Expertise in conducting classroom observations and engaging in a feedback protocol
•Ability to gather multiple types of evidence and data to inform the work
•Experience facilitating data study to inform instructional improvements
•Values the importance of fostering growth mindsets among students and adults
•Committed to educator reflection, agency, inquiry, and empowerment
•Lifelong professional learner
•Must hold a SEU Unit A-eligible position

Responsibilities:
•Demonstrate and model effective strategies based on research and best practices
•Build teacher knowledge and skills in high priority pedagogical areas
•Conduct and facilitate peer observations and lab site visits
•Provide educators with feedback, strategies, and resources through observations cycles
•Work with teachers to gather formative data (e.g., student exit tickets, student work) to examine impact of new practices
•Provide consultations and feedback to educators seeking to adopt and transfer new strategies and improve their practice in specific areas
•Track and monitor educator growth in identified priority areas
•Lead professional learning opportunities relevant to the domain (professional development modules, summer workshops, etc.) as necessary
•Coordinate and communicate with ILT and other key personnel to foster common expectations related to domain
•Meet periodically with other domain specialists to share experiences and best practices
•Contribute to aligning domain focus area with curriculum
•Create an atmosphere of trust and collaboration among staff that will promote professional growth and accelerate the achievement of all students
•Document the work through domain specialist logs
•Collaborate with other educator leaders to share best practices, problem solve, and build leadership skills

Terms of Employment: Work to be conducted out of regular school/work hours
