2021-2022 SCHOOL YEAR

VOCATIONAL INSTRUCTOR - PLUMBING - pending budget approval

Job Goal: Somerville High School is a comprehensive high school with a robust Career and Technical Education Center (CTE) comprising thirteen dynamic career areas.

We are seeking a plumbing expert who is passionately interested to educate the next generation of professionals in this field. The successful candidate will begin working in January 2021 to help build this highly-sought after program. This is a school-year position which requires a person who can instruct students in the Plumbing Chapter 74 Career Vocational Technical Education (CVTE) Massachusetts state frameworks as well as the industrial standards associated with the plumbing field, and in accordance with school policies, procedures, schedules, and negotiated agreements.

Required Qualifications:
MA DESE Teacher’s approval (Chapter 74) in the Plumbing Technical Program or the ability to obtain within three years.
Possession of a current MA Master Plumbing License required.
Curriculum development experience and knowledge of integration of technical competencies with curriculum frameworks.
Five years of recent (within the last seven years), full-time employment experience directly related to Plumbing.
Competency in the use of computer applications and instructional technology to aid in the interactive delivery of instruction.
Incorporate fundamentals of Plumbing law into the delivery of curriculum instruction.
SEI Endorsement or the ability to obtain within 3 years.

Preferred Qualifications:
Familiar with a blended learning environment.
Evidence of good human relation skills.
Ability to develop & deliver instruction that helps to ensure program enrollment growth.
Evidence of or ability to meet industry-recognized credentials.
Strong documentation and organizational skills.
Experience teaching students who are English language learners.
Demonstrated experience with second language acquisition.

•Use methods of instruction that are equitable, welcoming, motivating and student-centered.
•Prepare for the delivery of appropriate instruction in accordance with department goals and objectives following proven procedures.
•Participate in activities that promote the best interest of our students and our school.
•Maintain decorum and control of assigned students for the purposes of enhancing learning and ensuring a safe and healthful environment in the classroom and throughout the school.
•Organize and deliver instruction sequentially following the most current Massachusetts VTE Curriculum Frameworks outlined in the Plumbing occupational area under the Construction Cluster and utilizing Competency Based Education methods and techniques as appropriate to individual student learning styles and abilities.
•Provide quality instruction relative to all aspects of Health and Safety as they relate to the Plumbing Industry.
•Provide instruction in the following areas of this trade: Industry Quality Standards, Design Process, Problem Solving, Equipment, Manufacturing, and Measuring.
•Provide the latest safety training to students and work with them to achieve OSHA certification in a timely manner while displaying and promoting safe working practices at all times
• Initiate and participate in departmental efforts to integrate instruction.
•Attend curriculum development, departmental, staff, and other required meetings.
•Comply with rigorous standards for professional improvement to keep current with modern technology and pedagogy.
•Cooperate with the Assistant Principal of Career, Vocation and Technical Education and lead teacher in fulfilling the mission of the department and institution.
•Assist the Assistant Principal of Career, Vocation and Technical Education and lead teacher with tasks related to the program budget, advisory committee logistics, curriculum development, and tasks related to local, state and national assessments.
•Update student records in the district’s student information system (SIS) and competency tracking system.
• Abide by all school procedures, rules and directives.
