Job Description
Responsibilities:
-Assists principal with developing and administering general school routine, activities within the building and facilities management
-Assists the principal and school council in the development and evaluation of School Improvement Plan
-Assists principal with the development of annual school budget
-Observes, counsels and motivates professional staff towards attainment of educational goals of school and district
-Implements professional development plans that are related to high student achievement
-Reviews student data to determine areas that require change in instructional practices
-Maintains a school climate that encourages cooperative and collaborative attitude amongst the staff and students
-Helps all students see themselves as unique individuals responsible for their own action
-Foster of excitement of learning in all students
-Works with district curriculum coordinator to ensure the implementation of the Massachusetts Learning Standards and innovative instructional practices
-Encourages and initiates continued improvement of curriculum and teaching methods of classroom teachers, Special Educators and specialists
-Maintains a standard of student behavior designed to command respect and minimize school, classroom and bus disruptions
-Assists teachers with behavior management techniques in and out of the classroom
-Supervises student attendance and addresses issues of chronic absenteeism and tardiness
-Facilitates and attends grade level meetings
-Interviews and screens prospective staff members
-Maintains effective communication with parents, staff and community
-Encourage staff participation in parent-teacher association and community-wide events
-Evaluates and supervises staff designated by principal according to Massachusetts Teacher Evaluation System
-Evaluate and supervise para-educators designated by principal
-Perform other tasks and responsibilities assigned by principal and superintendent.

School History and Profile The John R. Briggs Elementary School is located in Ashburnham, Massachusetts. Ashburnham is a rural community of approximately 5500 people, located thirty-five miles north of Worcester, MA on the New Hampshire border. Ashburnham has limited industry and is dependent upon its personal property tax base for funding. The John R. Briggs School was built in 1968. The building is named after a much loved and internationally recognized Boy Scout Leader who lived in Ashburnham. He devoted his life to working with children and was responsible for designing and building the town pool. The John R. Briggs Elementary services students in Pre-K through grade five. We strive to maintain workable class size with the support of the AWRSD School Committee. Special Education support is provided through certified Special Education teachers within and outside of the regular classroom. We provide counseling services to students through our school adjustment counselor.

Job Requirements
Qualifications: -A minimum of Master’s degree in educational administration or a related field. -Current Massachusetts’ licensure as a principal within the grade levels taught in the school. -A minimum of at least three years of appropriate teaching experience. -A love of children and learning. Terms of Employment: -205 work days per year. -Salary and benefits negotiable.
