Job Description
ob Summary

The Library Media Specialist provides a variety of library services including, but not limited to technical support for computer-aided library services, leadership over day-to-day operations of a secondary school library and advanced assistance to staff and students using the library.

Responsibilities and Duties

Oversees and contributes to efficient scheduling and use of computer labs located in the library.
Assists students and staff by answering questions on the use of the library, internal and external resources and location of materials. Provides instruction on the use of computers in the library.
Places orders for books, periodicals, and a variety of supplies for library use within pre-established parameters and procedures.
Develops and communicates library use policies and guidelines.
Oversees, guides and participates in the work of other library staff.
Communicates and monitors student conduct in the library.
Provides reference services to students and staff using print and on-line resources.
Distributes and maintains audiovisual equipment.
Assists students with book choices for pleasure and assigned reading.
Maintains print and non-print collection.
Facilitates production of instruction materials.
Collaborates with teachers on the integration of instruction in use of library services with class activities.
Performs other related duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees.
Massachusetts Educator’s License (Library Media Specialist, all levels)
A minimum of two year’s experience in a public or private school library/media center is preferred.
Experience in the use of audio-visual equipment is expected, with emphasis on video (DVD and Camcorder operations) and computer/computer related background.
Possess those personal and professional characteristics necessary to carry out the responsibilities of the position.
Employment based on successful completion of a CORI background check.

Other

Reports to the Building Principal.
This is a 10 month position with a teacher’s contract.

Job Requirements
