Student Enrollment and Registration Specialist
SOMERVILLE FAMILY LEARNING COLLABORATIVE (SFLC)

Job Goal: The Student Enrollment & Registration Unit of the SFLC works to create and maintain a system for school registration, enrollment, and assignment that is easy for families to navigate and fosters a seamless entry into Somerville Public Schools.

General Description: The Student Enrollment and Registration Specialist works collaboratively as a team member to welcome new students and their families to the Somerville Public Schools and ensure a smooth transition for new students. Through working closely with parents/guardians, the Liaison will ensure equitable access to school programs and services through the Student Enrollment and Registration Office.

Required Qualifications:
Portuguese language proficiency is required

Preferred Qualifications:
•Fluency in home language and English
•High School Diploma or equivalent; BA strongly preferred
•Computer literacy including data entry and reporting
•Ability to work as an effective team member

Responsibilities:
•Establish a welcoming environment for students and families new to the district
•Assist families in school registration and school/program selection
•Assist families in access to School District Information
•Provide information about community resources to new students and their families
•Assist in identifying Limited English Proficient students, and in coordination with the Assessment and Placement Liaison, counsel families on appropriate student placement
•Review student records to determine appropriate grade level placement; refer students in Gr. 9-12 to Somerville High School Welcome Center
•Communicate with sending and receiving schools regarding appropriate placement
•Serve as liaison to Special Education Department for new students with existing Individualized Education Plans
•Data entry of new student information; maintain student information changes in Student Information System
•In office interpretation and translation as needed
•Participate in: staff meetings and program planning; outreach to the community; and social service networking
•Remain knowledgeable of school and district policies and procedures for student assessment, student placement and data management
•Maintain current knowledge on issues including: language development, educational programs, health and health insurance, benefits, immigration, food insecurity, homelessness and housing issues, and cultural diversity
•Under the direction of the Enrollment Office Director, take on special assignments and collaborate with Early Childhood, High School, Adult Education, Special Education, Multilingual Services and other district departments or community agencies as deemed necessary.
•Other duties as required

Terms of Employment:
Work Year: 12 months, full-time
