ANNOUNCEMENT OF VACANCY FOR THE
2020-2021 SCHOOL YEAR

Part Time Recording/Transcribing Secretary
for Executive School Committee Sessions
Somerville Public Schools

Job Goal: Under general direction, acts as a recording/transcribing secretary to the Somerville School Committee for Executive Session meetings; performs responsible, confidential and complex duties related the recording/transcription of records and documents.

Responsibilities:
•Review, transcribe and present for approval past and prospective Exec Session notes;
•May be required to attend Executive Sessions to assist and take/record minutes in the event of the Executive Secretary’s absence.
•May need to add on the Regular School Committee Minutes twice a month after 12 months in the position
•Comply with deadlines by completing transcriptions in a timely manner so that meeting minutes can be submitted for approval at the following scheduled School Committee Executive Session meeting.
Qualifications:
•Perform responsible and difficult recording secretarial work involving the use of independent
•judgment and personal initiative.
•Understand the organization and operation of the City and of outside agencies as necessary to assume
•assigned responsibilities.
•Knowledge of practices and techniques of minute taking and preparation.
•Knowledge of English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
•Ability to perform responsible and difficult recording secretarial work involving the use of independent
•judgment and personal initiative.
•Ability to take and transcribe dictation at a speed necessary for successful job performance.
•Ability to type at a speed necessary for successful job performance
•Ability to work independently in the absence of supervision
•Ability to maintain tact and courtesy in high stress environment.
•Ability to operate and use modern office equipment including a computer.
•Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
•Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Terms of Employment:
•Part-time Admin Support Assistant (up to 19 hours/week); To support Exec Session Meetings for indefinite period of time;
•Confidential position
