ANNOUNCEMENT OF VACANCY FOR THE
2020-2021 SCHOOL YEAR

Multilingual Learner Education Program
Assessment and Placement Liaison
SOMERVILLE PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Job Goal: Coordinate assessment and identification of Multilingual Learners and determine appropriate placement in programs. Communicate with families, school personnel, Enrollment Specialists, and MLE Office about assessment and placement. Maintain data, forms, and reporting related to new and returning MLE student enrollment.

Qualifications:
•BA required, Masters in Language, Literacy, Linguistics or related field preferred
•Computer literacy; familiarity with data management and student information systems, google docs and forms
•Familiarity with WIDA Standards and Assessments
•Detail oriented, ability to manage multiple tasks
•Ability to communicate effectively with multiple stakeholders
•Bilingual in Spanish and/or Portuguese required

Responsibilities:
Assess and determine Multilingual Learners need for services and placement in programs district-wide including:
•Coordinate and conduct initial and assessment of students’ English Language Proficiency
•Coordinate and conduct Native Language Proficiency assessment when applicable
•Maintain assessment calendar with consideration for high volume periods of enrollment
•Facilitate training of staff in the use of Assessment Tools as needed
•Conduct Academic Records review for placement
•Facilitate SLIFE Identification procedures and communication with school based teams
•Maintain new student data in Aspen
•Participate in MLE, Enrollment Office meetings and Professional Development
•Organize and maintain new student tracking systems to facilitate communication among MLE Department, receiving schools, and Enrollment Office
•Convene interdepartmental task teams to review and improve processes as needed
•Maintain current knowledge of assessment tools and updates in WIDA Standards and compliance requirements

Family Communication:
•Coordinate with families for scheduling assessment
•Provide information to families about their rights and responsibilities in regard to student assessment and program placement

Data Management and Compliance Tasks
•Monitor new student data entry and record keeping
•Ensure 100% compliance in MLE and enrollment forms

Position Reports to: District Administrator of English Learner Education, Family and Community Partnerships Department or designee.
