ANNOUNCEMENT OF VACANCY FOR THE
2020-2021 SCHOOL YEAR

Bilingual Curriculum Translator (English to Spanish)
EAST SOMERVILLE COMMUNITY INNOVATION SCHOOL

Job Goal: The Unidos program currently adopts the Somerville Public Schools’ curriculum while also adhering to the guiding principles for dual language education. This year, due to remote learning, the district is rolling out weekly slide decks in English for classroom teachers across the district. The Bilingual Curriculum Translator will support classroom teachers and the Unidos specialist to translate the decks into Spanish and make the necessary modifications for dual language learning.

Qualifications:
•High level of Bi-literacy in English and Spanish
•Organizational skills and ability to complete tasks in a timely manner
•Familiarity with on-line learning platforms
•Knowledge of elementary curriculum, Common Core, and WIDA Standards

Responsibilities:
•Prepare a slide deck for use in a Spanish-based classroom or for a grade where students rotate between Spanish and English weekly
•Slide deck language is translated to Spanish
•Important vocabulary words for the lesson are inserted in a pre-teach slide
•Oracy sentence stems are added to each lesson
•Language domains are added to each lesson
•All images with text, audios, games, and mentor texts are translated or removed and replaced with a culturally and linguistically appropriate version that meets the same learning objective
•A bridge slide added as appropriate
•When the content is not applicable to the Spanish language (e.g. phonics lessons, alternative lessons) it is replaced with appropriate material.
•In the week-on, week-off model, English lessons must partner with the Spanish lessons, and thus require some modifications.

Terms of Employment:
•Yearly Appointment - Funding Source: ELE Department (Title III LEPs)
•Scheduled school year (September, 2020-June, 2021)
•Stipend: Not to exceed $3000 (Up to 120 hours @$25/per hour)
•Remote/Virtual and In-School learning
