Job Description
Winchester Public Schools is seeking a long term substitute Reading Specialist through the remainder of the 2020-2021 school year.

Evaluates students having difficulty in any area of reading program who are referred to the Reading Specialist, and assumes responsibility for determining which students would benefit from corrective reading instruction.
Gives corrective reading instruction to those remedial students (a remedial reading student is designated as one whose reading is not commensurate with his capacity) most in need thereof, specifying additional follow-up activities to be used in the classroom and provides special materials where appropriate.
Prescribes adjusted and corrective programs to be carried on by the classroom teacher for those children not placed under the tutelage of the Reading Specialist.
Cooperatively assists teachers and principals in the selection of materials to meet individual and classroom needs.
Informs the principal and staff of new developments and trends in reading as reflected in current research and experimentation.
Plans and conducts in-service programs involving individual and group meetings to acquaint teachers with the total reading program.
Arranges demonstrations and conducts lessons for specific purposes in the classroom or before groups of teachers.
Coordinates and analyzes school-wide testing program involving reading achievement.
Assists principal in preparing a budget for the reading program.
Observes new teachers in order to help them conduct a more effective reading program.

Job Requirements
Must hold a valid DESE Teacher Certification
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience preferred
  • Master degree preferred
  • Citizenship, residency or work VISA in United States required
