ANNOUNCEMENT OF A VACANCY FOR
THE 2020-2021 SCHOOL YEAR

ELL Parent Educator
ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNERS DEPARTMENT

Job Goal: The English Learner Education Department provides opportunities for parents and guardians to engage in activities to learn about and improve educational programs. The Parent Educator leads a team of Parent Outreach Leaders to convene parent visits to schools and to gather and analyze data. The Parent Educator facilitates regular meetings to discuss findings and share ideas for improvements. The Parent Educator prepares an annual report and presentation about the English Learner Education programs and services to the SPS School Committee.

Qualifications:
•Experience in leading and facilitating team meetings
•Experience working with and commitment to diverse communities
•Excellent interpersonal skills
•Excellent organizational skills
•Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a team
•Experience and knowledge of U. S. School Systems, English Learner, and Bilingual Programs
•Master degree preferred; BA considered

Responsibilities:
•Provide leadership to a team of Parent Outreach Leaders
•Work collaboratively to develop trainings on school-related topics and curriculum activities
•Convene and facilitate regular meetings
•Provide guidance for effective outreach to families of diverse language and culture backgrounds
•Communicate school goals, expectations, regulations, and compliance requirements for student learning and achievement in ways that diverse families can understand
•Organize and conduct school visits to observe English Learner Education programs and interview parents, teachers, and school administrators
•Outreach to and work collaboratively with community groups and agencies representing and/or serving immigrants
•Attend and participate in meetings with English Learner Educators and key stakeholders
•Gather and analyze data about school and program demographics, enrollment, and performance data
•Facilitate processes of shared decision making, periodic and annual reporting, and develop recommendations for improvements
•Other duties as required

Terms of Employment:
•Part Time / 40 weeks/ School Year Schedule
•Up to 8 hours per week
•Salary: Grand Funded Position
•$25/hr (not to exceed $8,500)

Position Reports to: District Administrator for English Learner Education / Family and Community Partnerships or Designee
