THE 2020-2021 SCHOOL YEAR

Parent Outreach Leader
ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNERS DEPARTMENT

Job Goal: The Family Engagement & Empowerment Linked to Learning Unit of the SFLC works to develop and implement strategies for building capacity and accountability across schools and departments to support research-based family engagement strategies that improve outcomes for youth and empower families.

General Description:
The Parent Outreach Leader engages family members in opportunities to learn, share in decision making, and in developing avenues to be engaged in the improvement of the English Learner Education Program.

Preferred Qualifications:
•Proficient in English; Bilingual preferred
•Experience in attending and contributing to team meetings
•Experience working with and commitment to diverse communities
•Excellent interpersonal skills
•Excellent organizational skills
•Ability to work flexible hours including before school, evenings and weekends
•Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a team
•Familiarity with the Somerville Public Schools
•High School Diploma
•Bilingual/Bicultural
•Deep commitment to closing opportunity gaps and promoting equitable practices

Responsibilities:
•Assist in English classes and provide small group activities and individualized support
•Work collaboratively to develop school-related topics and curriculum activities
•Attend Program Meetings
•Assist in outreach to families and make periodic phone calls to encourage consistent attendance
•Communicate school goals and expectations for student learning in ways that diverse class participants can understand
•Conduct targeted outreach to families and community members to promote school-based and district-wide events and programming
•Assist in the maintenance of the classroom environment conducive to adult learning
•Assist in organizing and developing avenues to be engaged in program improvements
•Conduct outreach for and attend regular meetings held in the evening; attend and contribute to annual presentation to the SPS School Committee
•Organize and conduct school visits to observe English Learner Education programs and interview parents, teachers, and school administrators
•Commits to providing and promoting equitable practices to ensure access for all families
•Other duties as required

Terms of Employment:
•Part Time / 10 Months / School Year Schedule
•Salary: Grand Funded Position

Position Reports to: District Administrator for English Learner Education / Family and Community Partnerships or Designee
